CRX V MR2 ......??
#2
Well I'm biased, (http://www.benerridge.freeserve.co.uk/mymr2.htm), but I've driven my brothers '89 CRX a fair bit. Basically, they were rivals at the time and are quite close in a number of categories.
Performance: The MR2 is a little bit quicker. The engines are very similar in torque, power and delivery but IMHO the MR2 engine makes a nicer noise!
Handling: Again I'm biased as I've grown to only like mid-engine rear drive set ups. HOWEVER, the CRX does have the best turn in of any front wheel drive car I've driven and sticks down really nicely in high speed long sweeping bends. Other than that, MR2 beats it.
Refinement: Probably quieter in the CRX.
Costs & Reliability: Similar.
CRX back seat: A joke! More somewhere to sling your shopping.
Upshot, same as all of these discussions - it's all up to personal preferences and depends entirely on what you're looking for in the car. For me, the MR2 has it.... my brother thinks otherwise!

Scooby Regular
Mr2 ALLLL the WAAAAAYYYYY.
I have driven and owned loads of car, and still the MR2 Mk1 is the MOST communicating car, fullstop
The Owners club is excellent(still a member).
Parts availability is great(new and used), mods are available through Fensport(very professional company for Toyotas).
TBH, every time i got a new car since the MR2, i couldn't help but compare it with the MR2. And everytime, the MR2 won and still wins. Simple as that. You have to drive one(a good example, not a shagged one) to understand what i am talking about. Drive back to back an MR2 and a CRX and you'll get the FULL picture, trust me on that. You simply wear this car.
