Main dealer car FSH, a fiver less than 15k does this sound good?
Whatcar.com has it at 12k on dealers forecourt. It has done 20000 miles the tyres have a bit of life in them, front alloys slight scuff apart from that the car is mint. Fleet Honda.
They are only offering a sh*t P/X on my M plate mazda 323f V6, what should i do get the price down or walk.

Honda Dealer's often price there car above book value more so if it's a Type R car.
Dealer's have a margin in the price of a car to " Seal the Deal" around part-ex car's. If you pay retail for the car and get a rubbish part-ex the dealer is trying to be a bit cheeky, so walk away.
When I purchased my Integra Type R from a Honda Dealer I paid cash(had sold other car) and managed to knock 2 grand off their asking price.I'm not saying the Dealer has 2k to play with but they will have some movement on price. It never hurt's to haggle.
The part Ex may be the problem, as they will have it underwritten by a local used car dealer and they usually bid low because they don't get to see the car. If you can sell the car privatly or get it underwritten by a dealer yourself you will be in a better bargaining point over the Type R.
Also try www.autotrader.co.uk and do a search for prices.
Honda U.K car's have 3 year 90k warranty and Euro car's have 3year's 60k pan Euro warranty on them but must have full Honda sevice histiory to claim so check history as a missed sevice may cost dearly.
Hope this help's, happy hunting.
Mac.

the dealer started buy saying that the price displayed was the price that was yesterday, today after he realised that i was serious has now said there is some flexibility. The carstill has 17 months honda warranty, but surly if i bought a private car i would still get the balance of the manufactures warrenty no? He offered me 1500 quid for my car but reconned that was the glasses guide price, whatcar.com has it at about 2.2k so as you say he is probably trying to be optimistic!! He wouldn't tell me what the glasses dealer price was for the car but i recon that its nowhere near 15k!!!
Anybody out their with a glasses guide??

Try this link for Glass' prices

Whatever the price, just concentrate on the price to swap - don't get too hung up on the p/ex price.
If they want £14995 and are offering £1500px leaving £13495
Why not just say "I'll do the deal today at my car plus £12500?"
Nothing lost - have you checked the ins cost by the way ?

Sorry while I remember, have a drive in a year old 51 or 02 plate Octavia vRS first before deciding.
- Just as well built, Audi engine which remaps easily to 210/220bhp for £500. Drives very well and well worth trying as they may be more flexible on your p/ex as well.

Not bad.
Was looking at a scoobie but the insurance/running cost/commoness have put me off.Although they are getting quite cheap now!!
Also the missus prefers the Honda!!

ADL...
Now try the Octavia and imagine it with the mild ECU remap.
Leather interior, solid build, ridiculous mpg, long life services.
And DO NOT say "But its a Skoda"(!).
Swapped my Impreza for the 4x4 version. Both have their strong points.

The OCtavia is a good car, but if it's fun you're after then it's not a patch on the Type R. Sure it's tuneable - most turbos are - but outright power isn't everything, your still left with a rather dull, uninspiring engine in comparison with the Honda's no mater what the bhp.

Have to agree, have owned a TYPE R and it is a cracking car, have had a couple of S3's, and, while they were good cars, TYPE R put a smile on my face the way the Audi's never could.

Giving an alternative perspective as the guy (ADL) is concerned about p/ex price on a car costing £15k when you can get a brand new Octavia for less, or a still newer one for £3k less than the Type R.
Also, my last car was a modified Impreza Turbo with Tek2 etc, and whilst I'm not saying the Octavia is in the same league in drivin fun (yet), I'm genuinely and seriously impressed with the car - even before I improve the power, brakes and suspension to my tastes. The Haldex (S3) 4x4 already grips as well as the Impreza and the steering is much better than expected (ie not like my Audi A4 Quattro)
This is a 'value and huge potential' thread for me !

Are the Octavias going to suffer from huge depreciation in the future? I hope not as these seem like very good cars- not the same sort of thing as the Honda "R" in any way though- chalk n cheese.
Considering a 'tavia myself to replace my old scoob.

Take your time and buy a year old to reduce depreciation.
My impreza was starting to drop £500+ a month anyway...
This is a criticism levelled against Skodas previously but vRS residuals aren't bad actually. Word of mouth is spreading fast - reminds me of my early Scooby days !
My first drive in the vRs left me wondering where the power was after the Impreza, but its much more refined all round - and remember the remap options are £400-500 away.

Does sound a bit dear to me. If you can sell the Mazda privately ?
The older shaped 323 is quite desirable and a few mates have struggled to find them as they seem quite dear and people don,t seem to sell them often.
If you do want the car don't keep going back and forth as a good salesperson will pick up on this and hold fast on the price. You obviously have some concerns over the price to raise this.
How much is is worth to you ?
