Nice cars!
Had a MK2 Custom for a while and loved it.
Mate had a MK2 with a Turbo and it was mental, back in 1980, ran 170/180BHP (i think) which was a lot back then.
A friiend of mine got given an MK2 x-packed custom by his dad ( with the boxed arches and those wonderful 7' wide mk2 alloys, recon Ford beat Audi to it with those Arches) at the age of 17 (lucky devil!), boy did we look the business when we went out in it. He passed his test in it as well.
Always wanted a MK2 and glad that i owned one, really like the MK1's, don't se them about much, mores the pity!
Ah, happy days

I bought my 3rd Mk2 in 3 years on Wednesday.
Cant wait to see what your Mk1 looks like. Deep down i think a Mk1 is prettier than a Mk2, but the Mk2 wins, just something about it that makes it cool looking.
Make sure you never consider getting rid of it unless you are getting another, better, Mk1 or Mk2.. nothing beats 'em.
CheeRS, Greg.

Fantastic looking car mate!
Always wanted an RS2000 but never got round to getting one. Owned two MK2 Escorts (first car) and I loved them to bits. Only trouble was I had to spend every weekend repairing that weeks patch of rust. In the end it just rotted away and I had to scrap it. If I ever get a garage I will have to get one as a second car, only taking it out on a nice sunny day.

wow that is a beauty Russ. A bit more subtle than the one I had - bright orange with orange stripes. Looking at yours, I think I will have to start searching for another one of my own.

Fantastic!
Like Ringpeas I started my driving life on RWD 'Scorts (2 x Mk1 and 2 x Mk2) but the best I had was a 1600 Sport with a 1760 engine. I'd still love a Mk1 RS (or even a Mex - I always wanted one in yellow).
If you don't mind me asking, what sort of money do decent examples go for these days?

Russ,
That is a seriously stunning car. Have you ever thought about getting in touch with Classic Ford Mag, as they like motors with an interesting history.
Got to say I'm on the look out for either a MK1 or 2 RS. My budget won't stretch to yours as I already run the Scoob and a daily hack.

In this world of negativity it comes to something when the harshest criticism possible is that the washer bottle is a little grubby on the corner.
Absolutely stonking car mate. Long may it reign.

I've been considering buying one of these recently. What sort of price does a minter go for? I'd consider any of these:
M1 rs 2000, mexico or even a standard mk1 ready for butchering.
Cheers

Before you go spending your money you MUST ensure that if you want a Mex. or RS2000 that the car you are looking at is a genuine type 49 shell with some history.
That is very hard these days...cars are being reshelled etc..they are 30 years old!!
If you want any further information etc look at the AVO owners website...Advanced Vehicle Operations(the factory they were all made at)
www.avoclub.com
RS 2000's are becoming very expensive....cars like mine and better are 8K to 10K...
There are alot more cheaper than that and through this club the parts etc are still available.
Have a look at the site and the links pages.
Regards,
Russ

Very nice car there mate
I can only echo what Stringpants has said about the cars as its currently getting very silly at the moment. There seems to be a Old Skool boom going on at the moment .Just check Motorsport news classifieds to see the current asking prices for clean standard Mark 2 escorts(1500 quid last time I looked!!!)Then add the premium on for the RS/Sport variations and you will be very surprised. The main thing is a lot of cars are snotters and are just getting a tosh over to sell them.
So you really need someone or the right info to see that you are looking at the genuine thing and that it aint a rotbox either.

Take a look in Classic Ford mag for prices.
For a mint Mk1/Mk2 RS2k you are looking at about £5-6k. Good condition usable ones maybe not completely original are about £3.5k.
For any Mk1/Mk2 in good condition with long MOT and stuff you are looking at about £1.5k as already mentioned.
Last year I did manage to buy one (just a 2dr 1.3L) with 12 months MOT in decent condition for £500 but they are so in demand now that things are getting out of hand.
If you are seriously interested in buying one the best thing to do is get all of the places where adverts might be put up for them in your 'favourites' and just spend an hour or so a day checking them all to see whats new. If you take your time there are bargains to be had, even now..
Cheers, Greg.
