Seat Toledo 1.9 SE TDi
#3
The most unreliable car I've owned was an 02MY Leon Cupra. Probs with the:
Engine (2 breakdowns - both coil related)
Gearbox (needed a new one)
Brakes (unprogressive, grabbed and squealed - "They all do that Sir...")
Trim (loads of it fell off, pealed, rattled or sqeaked)
Head Lights (filled with water)
Rear Stop Light (Full of water)
Doors (three leaked soaking the carpets - phew the smell!)
Hatch (leaked)
Paint chips (all over the car)
Most are standard problems on the Leon. Sold the car after 9 months. Back to a Scooby! PHEW!
Cheers

Oh and that very same Leon Cupra's still for sale at the Seat branch of the Subaru franchise - 7 months and 3 weeks since I traded it... Now on offer for £2K less than they gave me for it.

It is indeed Leon avec boot.
As Mike has pointed out - Leon/toledo have suffered a number of issues and had a few unhappy owners
My own car is 18months / 30K with nowt more than a faulty instrument dimmer rheostat and a knackered rear damper bush, so I can't complain.

It comes out in October.
I drove a Fabia TDI 100PD yesterday - which is normally about 115bhp out of the box, and remaps very nicely to 140'ish.
Solid build, strong mid-range, excellent ride, good steering, brakes, handling and 50mpg.
Buy in black and you can do a DIY RS on a low mileage used one !

That must make me not 'most people' then - good !
I always remember my first Subaru in 94 (Legacy Turbo) when people kept saying "how many sheep you got in the back?" or "morning farmer"
Hadn't driven a Fabia TDi until yesterday - seriously impressed - and I've owned Audis recently. Going for something quicker but by the same maker (all Audi/VW mechanicals and brilliant build) and
FOR NOW, great value...

Hmm, going to think twice about a Toledo now. Shame - they really are cheap
Still recommend the link to seatcupra.net as I posted above.

Don't Skoda do a Fabia vRS now? Someone told me it was a 130bhp Diesel with 6speed!
I may just have to check it out.

Mine is for sale if you want one NOW (but only 'cos I want to spend the money on something else).

In a word, No.
Or to qualify that, you won't get any of the newer generation of turbo-diesels for that kind of money unless it has intergalactic mileage. Could go older for Peugeot 306 TD.
To be honest (and I have been looking around recently) I'd really recommend spending £8500-9000 on a year old Fabia TDI 100PD, NOT the SDI model !
Had a long test drive and I'd rate the engine, brakes, steering, ride, build, paint and kit list (Elegance model) as all Very Good or excellent for the type of car.
AND if you visit Jabbasport, it will safely be custom remapped to 140-145bhp, but still average a shade under 50mph in enthusiastic driving.
If we were in the market for a small diesel (things have just changed) I wouldn't look for anything else.
