Simple Question, Are Peugeot Road cars any good?
#2
simple answer: some of them yes
eg 205 GTI
106 GTI
306 GTI-6
as for the others I guess the 405/6 was not a bad rep mobile in its day.
They make some real pieces of crap though like the 607- what a waste of cash that is

Yeah they're alright. The fun factor has been engineered out of them a bit, but on the whole, and especially as from 2001 in the 206's case, quality has gone up considerably to the old Pugs. (Took Ł800 worth of suspension/chip/exhaust/etc to get my 206 GTi to corner/accelerate/*feel* faster than my old 1.9GTi though)
307 is a very "safe" car, no performance versions to speak of, but they are planning to stick the 180bhp engine in there too.
As mentioned though, might be an idea waiting to see whether the GTI-180 is good or not. Should start seeing previews/reviews as from May onwards.

But the 106 & 306 are still super and the GTi/Rallye versions are still favourites with many top mags.
I had a 106 GTi for 2 years, which was a superb car. Quick, well specced, amazing handling and thoroughly enjoyed owning it. But then got rid of it and bought a house and a normal car for a while. But in November I got myself a 306 Rallye, which is superb!
Hoepfully the new 206 GTi-180 and the sporty version 0f the 307 will have the same spark that made cars like the sporty 106, 205 & 306's great.

I'm a big pug fan
But 307s are w4nk - get a golf!
It'll never have the same spark Rich - its too high, knackers centre of gravity up too much to make it anything like the old beauts

I had a 106GTi for a couple of years and they are fabulous.
It could never keep up with my P1, but in terms of driver feel I think it would win if I'm really honest. It has the best steering feel of any car I have driven bar race-bred kitcars. Fabulous chuckable handling and good enough power and brakes to embaress lots of more powerful cars too.
Also drove the 306GTi-6 and that is a cracker too.

I have had a ropey 205 GTI 1.6 and a 309 1.3 (1990 H)look which cost 100 quid salvage, we repaired it, cost me nowt and was fun to drive, its still going as my dad has it whilst he decides what new car to get, we have both driven some fine motors but the one that we both agree on is the 309, sure its got a rattly 1.3 engine but its superb to drive, it handles well given its skinny tyres, pulls well given its puny engine and the gearchange is the best I have used in any car period, It hasnt rusted, never gets and proper attention and it just keeps going, my dad is looking for a car around 12-15 grand but I honestly dont think he can bear to get rid of the 309 look, its amazing really , I speak to people with Ford Focus's who are at the at the end of their tether, p1sse of BMW owners and a 100 quid car does nothing but maze us, amen to that
PS, may mate Steve got rid of 206 GTI after six months, it was boring, couldnt out accelerate my old Golf GTI 8 valve, in fact it was slower.

They do great in the WRC , but what about on the Road?
Hell yeah...
They make superb fwd hot hatches, including the now legendary 205 1.6 & 1.9 GTi's, then there's the 106 XSi/GTi/Rallye, 205 T16, 309 GTi, 306 S16/GTi-6/Rallye, etc.. loads of top motors!
Current 206 GTi is a bit limp, the new 206 GTi-180 is released in May so that will soon sort that out.
As for their "normal" range of cars, then they are very popular and the diesel ones are great.
So, in answer to your question, yes.
