My best advice to you is not to buy a tiptronic at all. The FTO has a high revving engine without a lot of torque, and I found that the auto gearbox made it soggy and unresponsive. The conventional manual was much sharper, even though I was comparing the regular 2.0 V6 engine (manual) with the 2.0 MIVEC (auto).

Post your FTO questions on www.smartgroups.co.uk "FTO List" - It's a VERY active list and you'll get someone on there who owns a GS that can give you all the answers.

Yeah all the advice I've been given on these...is get the GPX Manual one... that's what I'm getting, expect to pay £7000+ for them, as the manual is kinda rare. It's a loverly car to look at, decent performace, not quite as pants soiling as the scoob, but the Mivecs are good for almost 160mph, sounds like a hoot to me Get mine april 1st, like the fool I am!

The 1.8 (GS) is the bottom of the range, and isn't quick - But people don't buy FTOs because they are the quickest car on the road, they buy them because they look great.
A younger FTO enthusiast could afford to insure a GS, and not a GPX - so the 1.8 GS remains a reasonably viable resale option.
Anyhow - even a 1.8 GS can look great, with a bit of work
The car above is a GS - that's had a few quid spent on it (not a massive amount), and polished nicely with Meguiars..
Check out Steve Hemming's FTO site at www.mitsubishi-fto.org for more on this and his other cars...
