Anyone had this problem? The front nearside light suffers from condensation in wet/damp weather. How can I stop this, or is a new light the only solution?

Cheers.

Unhappy

Got exactly the same on my E36 328.

If anyone knows the solution (short of a new headlamp unit) let us know !

'fraid it pretty normal and common... best advice seems to be sit the car with full beam on for a bit which clears it away. I've had it on 4 headlamp units - 2 OEM and 2 In.Pro Angel eye units. Plenty other folk have experienced it too.

Fitted some rather good PIAA bulbs to the main beam. Basically PIAA competition H1 bulbs. Amazing difference in light quality. The light output is white rather than the halogen yellow.

Not sure on their E approved rating, but they're in main beam anyway.

Only way to clear the condensation is to remove the entire headlamp unit, remove the bulbs, and either use a hairdryer to heat up the unit and expend the moisture, or put the whole unit in a heated cupboard (or similar) to do the same thing. After that, use some clear silicone sealant around any joints in the unit, replace the bulbs, and refit the unit. Bit of a pain, but the only way you'll clear the problem permanently.

Thumbs up

If you drape a peice of newspaper over the headlight with it on dipped beam this will also dry it out as the paper keeps the heat in.

Nope. The moisture will still be in there and will condense again when it all cools down. You have to give it an escape.

Sounds like a fine excuse for a set of "Angel Eyes" headlamps to me...

I had this problem with my E36....
BMW told me the front cover always gets condensation and it clears once the lights are on.
Condensation within the light housing itself is a fault with the unit and would need replacing.
Well - thats what the BMW dealer told me
