You can pick one up for........

Is it me or is this a phrase thats used quite a lot on here, usually reffering to a performance/luxury car of yesteryear and how much you can buy one for now they are getting on a bit.
I have found myself using this phrase, usually following a protracted session on the AutoTrader website or sat on the bog with the paper based version.
I think this phrase should be banned as its dangerous, Quentin Wilson started it on Top Gear suggesting that everybody abandoned buying new Mondeos and put their money into ten/fifteen year old Bentley Turbo's, I bought into this wholeheartedly and have only just realised how much money its cost me.
So, anybody got any good examples of You can pick one up for and why it turned out to be a nightmare.
Mine involved a Jag XJS V12 but I had a narrow escape.

Ford Mondeo.
18,000 miles 12 months and over £800 in general maintenance. It never broke down or anything but I thought 800 notes was high for a 'cheap runaround'.
Choose a Mondeo because you could pick one up for...
