Jeff,

Great pics! I'm in the process of looking for an S4 myself - probably an Avant. I understand that there was a minor facelift around mid '99. As the local S4 expert , is there an easy way to spot the difference between facelifted models and non-facelifted?

cheers,
andy

There was a face-lift in Nov 99 (basically the MY00 cars). There are a number of differences which are mainly dash related. I'm not sure of the other changes but I think that HID lights became standard.

Best to ask over on http://www.rs246.com

Mines a facelift model. What gets confusing is that the Americans had the car a year longer than the rest of the world and had another face-lift in Nov 2000. They also didn't get the car 98.

Jeff

Wasn't the second A4 facelift in early 99 (T) - I'm sure it was.
Or did they clear S4 'stocks' and delay on the S4 until later?

Only been to brands once - great circuit and perfect for the S4 as smooth and you could use the quattro grip out of the sharper bends

You might be right about the A4 facelift....I'm not sure. The S4 was definatly facelifted in Oct/Nov 99. In fact the S4 had three different front calipers in it's very short life, pre-Oct/Nov 99, Oct/Nov 99 & post.

I was the only person at Brands today wishing it would rain as I moved over for another bike-engined Westfield/Caterham.

Jeff,

I've been lurking for a few weeks on rs246.com, but have now registered and made my first post. It's a bit quiet over there tho!

BTW, your S4 looks great - what is the spec on it?

cheers,
Andy

Just noticed your reg. S4 TCP, and checked your profile - IT security consultant. Nice one

The spec of the car is

Nov 99 Audi S4. Currently with 48K miles.

Standard S4 goodies plus Bose Symphony Audio set-up and Silk Nappa leather.

Upgrades include AmD re-map (326BHP & 380 lb/ft) HiSpec front disc/calipers (335x32), ANC Chassis Brace and a short-shift kit.

The plate was really cheap off the DVLA.... I really wanted S4 VPN but it was gone Your only the 2nd person to mention the TCP significance, my wife thinks it's about sore throats

Jeff,
any reliability problems with the AMD upgrade?
I have been considering an S4 to replace my PPP'd WRX....

Completely rock solid. They actually re-map your car rather than use a generic map. Recommended.
