2.3e coupe was 9.2sec 0-60 I think and the 2.0 16V was 9.0

Doesn't tell the real story though as the 2.3 5cyl model was a peach to drive with great torque through the rev range and lovely raspy sounds.

Heres an alternative suggestion:
Before buying either try and track down an Audi 90 Quattro 20V Sport. Rare but has 2.3 20V 5 pot, 170 horses, 138mph, 7.8 to 60 and cheap to buy. The 2WD 20V sports are fun too.
Why one of these over a coupe? Because they handle much better due to the stiffer shell. Had one a few years ago and loved it. The engine is sooooo smooth and revs up to 7500rpm.

You could always get an S2........
No performance problems there.
Getting cheap now.
See the S2 thread.

Im with rumpler on the 2.3 over the 16V though. Much nicer engine.
2.3 20V is even better but you'll only find them on older G,H or J plate cars.

The 90 20V is surely a fine car, there is even a 90 20V quattro which was a very very mean machine in its day.

Thumbs up

Yep The 90 quattro 20v was a cracker!

only sold mine last year, had it about 7years, went well handled well and sounded fantastic!

Once on the RAC rally we managed to return 30mpg average over a 1000 miles giving it some too!

Flogged to a mate for a grand and my scooby side trims colour coding.

He then wrote it off 6 weeks later! barsteward!
