I'm also looking at doing the same. I'm 25 and the insurance is only £50 cheaper. Also looking at the S2000, which is an additional £132 on the insurance.
Advantages of CTR are cheaper to run (I'd expect), better fuel economy, able to wheel spin, nice looks and a 9000 rpm redline.
Disadvantages are front wheel drive, and it's not a scoob.
Both are fun to drive and have excellent handling, but the Scoob has more kick when you drop a gear.

you'll get 30mpg out of an s2000 without too much bother.

CTR does NOT have a 9000rpm red line, the s2000 does. The CTR IIRC is about 8000rpm tops.

I've gone from a CTR to a MY02+PPP. Outright pace is not much different. Scooby (bugeye) is more refined and a lot softer set up. The only thing I miss is the feeling that you might just break the sound barrier when you hit vtec. The scooby punches you in the back, the honda just hurls you towards the horizon. Feels very different but the moments are fleeting - hence I bought a scoob.

Ps fuel consumption drastically better in the CTR (why did I sell it again?)

I have gone from a scoob to M3 to S2000 and I have to say out of all the cars I have had these included the S2000 is the best.

I looked at a Civic Type R but it looks like a people carrier and a few rude boys round here have them which put me off.

The S2000 is a great rear wheel drive car, which revs to 9,000 rpm which is addictive to say the least. Looks nice, soft top for the summer and is cheap to run....what more reason do you need.

Example of this is a service £130.00 all in. Forget the civic and get an S2000....you can get a nice one second hand for 20k now

I've been looking at an S2000 in Milton Keynes at the Honda Dealer in Kingston. 1300 miles for £23k. I'll be taking it out for a spin at the weekend, but I'm not sure I'm really a convertable person. The girlfriend loved it, and really wants me to trade the scoob in for it.

The S2000 is a fantastic looking car, about 6/7 past me at the same time on the m4 last summer, very impresive sight, however not practicle for me & I dont have enough mohony for one,
might wait untill I can afford a sti7 (probably a long wait)
Just thought the ctr was a decent replacment for the scoob & and is a lot more modern car than my my00, but however its not a scoob and I wouldnt get the same grin from going for a blast from time to time!

That's what you need to weight up. The grin factor against the econmical factor.
