Ok - its a long story - e-mail if you really interested
But! I'm thinking of going for one of these...
993 coupe... or a ZM3 coupe
BMW is essentially £9k less than its 993 counterpart & that counts for a lot...
What would you go for and why ?
Cheers,
Gastro
PS If anyone is interested in a minted 1998 Carrera 3.2 e-mail also

Had a similar decision recently - but was between a Bosxter S/ZM Coupe/TVR/M3/996 etc etc....
Went for the Boxster S in the end.
Though you can get a decent ZM Coupe now for under £20k which is a hell of a lot of car for the money !
But...now nobody lets me out of junctions & everyone thinks I am a self obsessed **** !!! Even had one guy call me a "******* w4nker" at the petrol station last night !! Maybe I shouldn't have been eying up his girlfriend though

I personally found the ZMCoupe a real handful - spinning its wheels in the first three gears and oversteering even when only slightly provoked.
According to EVO mag when they ran a long termer everyone ends uphaving a big hairy unwanted sideways moment in one sooner or later and I can well believe it.

....which is the reason most people go for one

I've not driven one but I have heard that 993s can be a bit unforgiving in the wet.
Here is a story I posted on another site about the MCoupe which may be of interest.
"Then I followed a M Coupe S redg Blue on to the cheshire lanes going from the Wilmslow road toward Knutsford, he really went for it, the performance of the cars is very similar, he only really pulled away when I was in the wrong gear (oops ) and I only gained if I braked later and also when my traction control allowed me to put down the power better (cheating ) coming out of the tighter corners. At one point I could hear his inside wheel start to spin and then he corrected very nicely as the tail started to go. Coming on to a long clear straight past Tatton park he accelerated very hard, if the car was pulling away it was not noticable, but I was flat out changeing on the change up lights, he backed off at high speed and I did move to over take to lead for a bit and see if I could pull away a bit (I doubt it), but I could see some traffic in the distance so I pulled back in and we traveled in convoy before parting company with some thumbs up and a peep of the horn just before Knutsford."
I was driving my 02 E46 M3 SMG, his Mcoupe would have the old E36 M3 engine 321bhp 258lb torque ? Where as I had 343 bhp 267lb torque. I was really pushing my car and was very impressed by the performance of the M coupe , particularly as the SMG box with change up lights allows me to take the car right upto the perfect point for maximum acceleration and executes extremely fast perfect changes everytime. The cornering of the M coupe was also very impressive.
Top gear gave it thier best drivers car for a couple of years.

The M coupe is a fantastic car - especially when fitted with AC Schnitzer suspension - i had one for about six months.
If you like the attention then it is arguably the better car than the 993. faster, rarer etc its a good size for our roads too.
Get a black one - very menacing
Also it came with both the E36 M3 engine (321bhp) and then was mechanically facelifted recieving the E46 M3 engine albeit detuned to 325bhp. This version is ditinguished by smoke crome alloys and it also gained (IMO in winter) DSC traction control!

This would be a very tough decision.
Both cars are IMHO 2 of the best drivers cars of all time. My brother has recently bought a 993s and I have driven this a couple of times.
For straight line speed, the //M is quicker. I'd say the 993s has better handling feel, but with the engine layout, you need to be careful around the corners. The //M is very rare and gets loads of attention. Both are quite expensive to insure and maintain. Both cars need to be revved to get power, so if you're going from a Scoob it'll take a bit of time to get used to.
Thanks
Sonu

Hi Sonu,
The Mcoupe i purchased was second hand and already had the ACS susp, and although i did test drive a standard M it was a couple of weeks apart so i cannot really offer a serious back to back comparison.
However as compared to the M3 Evo i had previously i found it to be quite alot firmer and could be quite harsh or really bad surfaced roads, but hey its not exactly an S class! Flipside was a better track car and much improved body control over the M3, but it did let go at the back far more often than the M3 - hence i'd only reccommend a later model Mcoupe with the DSC for those icy winter nights!

I followed a black zm3 coupe through town and literally everyone turns their head to look at it. has to be one of the maddest looking cars. If it was English it'd be a zm3 shooting brake. So after that, and i cream myself over 993's,I'd go for the bimmer.
