Mods please feel free to move, but its more a general question than specific to the car.

Guys was wondering if anyone knows if it would be possible to re-shell my Mk1 Gti Golf without the car needing any kind of engineers report done on it, or it requiring a Q plate. Basically want to re-shell it due to the chassis being in a bad state, but I want to keep the original chassis number, engine number and nuber plates intact.

My original idea was to buy a solid rolling chassis and transfer everything over, but although everything is above board I believe it is illegal to change over vin. numbers from chassis to chassis.

Also if any of you have any good web-sites or parts suppliers for them, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanx in advance

Dougie

Cool

I think the Other Marques forum will be the best place for this post.

cant keep the chassis number and reshell..

The q plate is when you cant determine the age of the car, and it goes on major components.. ie reshell then should go on correct reg plate.

If you move the chassis numbers then technically its ringing. Why not just use the chassis number from the new shell?

Dome,

Want to keep the original stuff together as it is a very early car (1980) that I've owned for a long time. Did some more digging about the chassis and it looks as though it is saveable, so if anyone has the webby address of any panel manufacturers or vw specialists it would be much appreciated.

Initially it looked as though a solid shell would be the cheaper and less hassle option to go for.
