Following a phone conversation that I have had today through work, has anyone on here experienced probles with the ignition coils (this also relates to Seat's which is how I found out after a call from a customer)
Press release as follows:-
The vehicles affected in this action include 2001/2202 cars equipped with 1.8 litre
engines, which includes the Audi TT and A4; and the VW Golf/GTI, Jetta, New
Beetle and Passat. The companies also included the Passat W8 engine, all VW's
equipped with the 2.8 litre VR6; as well as the Audi 3.0 litre V6 engine.
I have been reliably informed that once you get near 10k they will go, & trying to find a replacement is like finding rocking horse $hit!

My local VW dealer has 20 odd cars waiting on these from Germany. Most of the dealers in the country are the same. Caught VW napping. Multiply it by 4 (Audi,VW,Seat and Skoda) then multiply it by the number of each franchise dealer and you get an idea of the scale of it!!!!
Its because each lead has a built in amplifier and they ae breaking down and causing misfires.

My first one went at 35,000 miles, the second at 42,000, the third at 57,000, the fourth at 61,000 miles and the fifth at 72,000 miles. Luckily, after the first one went I bought a spare to carry in the boot. I still have a spare

Last week, following pleas on the Skoda board I phoned 12 garages and managed to acquire 8 of these little suckers.
According to VAG its damp getting through the seal. My ****! I had one go at the Ring, it was 25 degrees and there had been no rain for 5 days.
Supposedly there a shipment has arrived and they are starting to filter through to dealers. According to Skoda and VAG, there will be no recall of this part as it is not safety related. Hmm, so driving along the motorway and your car suddenly starts running on 3 cylinders isn't safety related?
Really? Must have missed that, I know they were in the States. Here they are saying that once they have stocks you can get them replaced if you are worried but they won't do it as a matter of course. Its up to you to request it. Or so I was told by Skoda customer services.
they havn't, certainly not by audi, its still a "supplier" issue
my TT was off the road for 2 weeks prior to xmas and is now off again ( 2 weeks ago) and wont get back till next month
the dealer had 36 cars waiting the part and they get 2-3 a week!

My apologies, I read the story as being a worldwide issue, but it appears that this only affected the US market: Link to story.
I guess the UK won't recall them until they have enough stock to cover it ?
Cheers

Can't help feeling this is the consequence of forcing lower and lower prices on the suppliers. VW, and Ignacio Lopez in a leading role, even demanded to be informed about manufactoring processes to tell them how to work even cheaper. as a consequence of saving multi millions quality and image suffered. Happened earlier to Opel/Vauxhall, the former employer of Mr Lopez. Oh such a coincidence. Or not? Amechanic told me at VW they indeed called it some years ago the Lopez effect. But such minor trifles never show up in a balance sheet.
Can anybody tell me where this coil comes from?
I own an S3 which has covered over 20K miles. My first coil went about 2 months ago, the second 2 weeks later. I kicked up a fuss and heard every excuse listed in this thread from Audi UK. In the end I wrote to the UK MD (Kevin Rose) and the Customer Services director. Ultimately I got a full diagnostic check carried out by the local dealer and all the remaining coils replaced with the new design FOC. Clearly this isn't Audi's preferred solution to their ignition coil problem but my advice is to go to the top asap - it worked for me (touch wood).

According to my source, there are currently approx 700 car off the road in the UK awaiting this part! & another 150 per week are failing!!
My source works for VW (as do I indirectly) - he turned up at my office today in a Golf, not his usual Passat. Guess what - His ignition coil has gone too

The good news is they are manufacturing a 'new improved' coil, but obviously demand is quite high at the moment
