Who is qualified for the Torque Steer Fury???
#1
Seems there are many among us who feel they are qualified to take on the challenge of the Focus RS direction randomiser power delivery characteristics.
So, show of hands laydeez n gentlemen - who here has owned a stupidly powerful FWD car that tried to throw itself in the ditch every time you looked at the Go button?
I'm ineligible as the only thing I've ever had that wasn't RWD was a Calibra Turbo - and that only torque steered if I disengaged the 4wd.

Fiat Croma Turbo - BBR upgrade to 220BHP FWD - overtaking = just put yer foot down, car veers to right, back off throttle, car pull back into correct lane !!!!

I bought a 2.0 16V Nova [blush] from a mate in March of last year. I thought it might be fun to punt round tracks but it was a pig of a car, it would light-up the front wheels in 3rd

Had both an Alfa 156 V6 (190bhp) and a GTV 3.0 V6 (220bhp), neither suffered from torque steer in the slightest.
Had a drive of a Saab 2.3 Turbo (200bhp) and the thing was awful. Would snake over the road as soon as the boost came in, or if wet, just light the wheels up and take a mm of tread off the tyres in seconds.
Reports say the new Alfa 147 GTA (250bhp) doesn't suffer from torque steer in the slightest either - it's all down to the engineering.

Me qualified to answer too. My Fiat Punto GT was 160 bhp and 180lb/ft of torque which was dumped on the road at 3,000rpm. In the wet it would wheel spin, in the dry my arms would ache and that was with power steering. Loved driving every minute of it though

I had a Fiesta RS Turbo with 165bhp / 920kg car No LSD. I have to admit it wasn't too bad considering its supposed to be a problem for a std one. I think the small T2 Turbo helped as it spins up at 1,200 rpm i think. The suspension (or lack of) on a bumpy road was far more wild - you get thrown all over the place. You did have to hang on to the steering wheel when putting the foot down but it was predicatble.

Friend has a Toyota Corolla with the 3S-GTE engine in the front driving front wheels only. Currently around 380bhp with no torque steer.
Was always told a big part of torque steer was whether the drive shafts were of equal length or not ?
My old Alfa 33 (around 140bhp) would pull in all directions execpt straight ahead. But I stil loved it
Cheers

1990 Lancia Thema 2.0 16v turbo, 185bhp/246lb ft torque thru the front wheels.
No torque steer thanks to equal length driveshafts! All this with an open diff.
Wheelspin in all gears in wet weather though
MG Montego's, especially the turbos, were legendary for it.

185bhp Fiesta turbo wasn't that bad,

fiesta turbo with 185 bhp, rip your arm off in the dry from a standing start. In the wet, forget going anywhere fast. The turbo, as mentioned before on this thread, cant see it coming in on 1200 revs, thought it was 2000/2500, i really cant remember now, was a long time ago lol

The old autocar review for the FRST claimed 1,200 revs, once I had my boost gauge fitted that seemed about right - If you booted mine (165bhp) while turning you had fun, much hanging on and skipping about the road but a straight acceleration in the dry was no problems at all - no wheelspin from 2nd up. The power builds a bit like a 16v - no big shunt like a ERST, due to the smaller turbo I assume. I also had 15" wheels (massive difference) with yoko's. In the wet wheel spin up to 4th.
