indeed... most of the labour was free - and some of it 50%.. (the total cost of labour would have come out at £2500 + VAT)
To be fair - the clutch known replacement before I bought it - in fact the clutch was fine, but the engager arm needing replacing and once the engine + gearbox are out - you might as well go the full hog !

The other bits and pieces were minor faults that I gave the green light to before they were done... in fact it looks like the stutter was due to the cylinder head temperature sensor (which was the last thing to be replaced !)

Believe me - I've also seen some very big bills on good 944 turbo's... somethng I'm sure you will find in time.

Well 4 weeks later - I have got my 3.2 back....
The stutter has been cured but I've developed one after seeing the bills......
The following have been done....

Clutch
Rear windows relay
Oil level sender
Plug lead set
Distributer cap/rotor arm
Throttle body position switch
Fly wheel sensors x2
Inlet manifold gaskets (12)
O ring seal
Cylinder head temperature sensor
Idle air adjustor
Throttle microswitch
Injector cleaner purge

Total hours labour.... 50 hours!!!

Total cost..... don't ask

..the car no longer stutters....

Now thats maintenance on a 'good' 3.2

Considering you bought it from a dealer, did you have to pay the whole bill?

Do you think that maybe it was not the best example?

I've had major bills on 944 turbos.....something like 8K in a year

Porsches are not cheap to maintain...old Porsches especially.

In the main you're probably right about the 'Porsche' parts thing, but some things surprise you; 911 headlamp lense: £13 when I broke mine.

I asked for the brakes on my turbo to be 'fixed' not long after I got it; £1,300. I was spitting chips 'cos I could have gone for Goodridge hoses and 993 Turbo 'big reds' if I'd known what was going to be done and the cost. To be fair they were spot on when I got it back, but they were still standard, so that's another grand I have to find when it hits the road again...
