Which one of those would you classify as a family car ????

Audi S4

2.7L V6, Twin Turbo, Twin Air-Water Intercoolers, Variable Valve Timimg, Fly by wire throttle, 'Proper' Quattro system with Torsen Diffs.....

Unhappy

Well, due to a completely sh!te start to the year I'm definately getting rid of my former pride and joy

Therefore I would appreciate any suggestions you all have about a replacement.....

I'm after a car around 13-17k, not a small car, needs to cost no more to run than the scoob at worst, cheaper would be better It needs to be just about as fast and also tuneable too. (don't want much do I )

Not after something very old - say a 99 or earlier car with around 40k miles.

The above is of course open to amendment depending on the car. My current thinking - as per an earlier thread, is the Audi S4. 2.7 bi turbo, fairly tuneable etc - but after other thoughts too.

Thoughts below please!
Cheers
Neil

I did think about that, but don't fancy a Clio - plus its too small. I went from a 306GTi-6 to the scoob, so can't be one of the new wee hatches Cheers for the reply though.

Seat leon cupra R?

210 bhp if I remember right.

Get a new one for that money.

Or pre owned - Accord Type R - big enough and great handling

Do what I did and buy a Skyline R33 GTR.

You'd be suprised, but the running costs really aren't much different to the scoob. Plus it's much much more fun.

And you'd be hard pushed to find something more tunable.

Octavia RS

Much cheaper than the Scoob, larger than the Scoob (you could park a small car in the boot ), 1.8 Turbo which starts at 180bhp but is tunable (see TaviaRS), and much less likely to attract the attention of plod / thieves / carjackers.

Only downside is that it is only FWD - if you wanted 4wd, you could get the Tavia 4x4, which (IIRC) is still 1.8 Turbo but only 150bhp.

remap - £500 (maximum)

end result - 222bhp, 231lb ft.

If you think that an Audi S4 or an R33 Skyline will have similar running costs to a Scoob, then think again.

IMHO there is nothing in the class of car that a Scoob is (powerful saloon car) that is as cheap to run. I mean, the minor services and oil changes are <£100 if you have them done at Scoobysport

Like the idea of the Evo, pick up a 5 or early 6 for that. But be warned they aren't cheap to run....even compared to a Scooby. Services every 4500miles, fuel consumption worse than the Space Shuttle. And I know someone who knackered the rear diff....£3000.

But apart from that best car I've ever driven.....but not to live with, that's why I kept the Scooby. Well that and the insurance would've crippled me!

Other than that the Octavia gets my vote.

.......or what about an original M3 Evo?

If you could stretch your budget a bit, there is a cracking S4 Avant on Audi UK's site for £22,995:

AUDI S4 quattro AVANT FINISHED IN IMOLA YELLOW WITH BLACK LEATHER INTERIOR. SPECIFICATION INCLUDES HEATED SEATS. SAT NAV + TV, ZENONS, GLASS ELECTRIC SUNROOF, 320BHP, 18" ALLOYS, PORSCHE BRAKES, UPRATED SUSPENSION, 6CD + BOSE SOUND SYSTEM, WINTERPACK, DIPPING REAR VIEW MIRROR, FRONT CENTRE ARMREST, SIDE GUARD, ACCOUSTIC REAR PARKING, ALUMINIUM TRIM AND ONE YEAR EXTENDED WARRANTY.

I fancy an s4 myself, but I'm not keen on the yellow (plus it's a bit more than I want to spend!).

cheers,
Andy

Hi Paul - YHM back, if it didn't get zapped again - cheers mate

Leon Cupra R not a bad thought but its that damn 1.8T engine again dodgy coil packs and not up to as much power as the 2.7l bi, like em though

Accord Type R - hmmm, scream out old man more than Audi, even with the Type R logo, another good car though!

Skyline - aye, but thats gonna cost loads more than a scoob to run and not wonderfully luxurious. Would be able to commit the cash to it I'd want to to mod it. Another good car though

Octavia - another good car , again the 1.8T and not too keen on the styling - a bit bland.

CTR - mailed that to you Paul

Evo - wicked car - but far too much cost to run and that fuel tank

Teg - nice again, but nah.

M3 Evo - that was the only other car I could think of that does the same sort of job as an S4, but its more expensive to run and insure and no one would ever let me out at junctions

944 - only porsche I'd like is a 911 (993) Turbo - lovely and miles outta my price range!

As for the S4 costing more to run than the scoob, nah. Insurance is a few hundred quid more. MPG is the same as I rarely get 20mpg now! Tyre cost is not much different. Major service is at 40k and 400quid, annual or minor is 200. If I got an S4 it would have had the 40k service done so wouldn't be too bad. In the last 2 years with the scoob I've had 2 400 quid services and 2 130 quid ones. So I'd say it was hardly any difference!

Any other thoughts? M3 Evo/S4 rival sort of thing?????????

They can all Corner ok at least :P

Andy - that is a beast of an S4, tonnes of options!!! Again though as you say - its a bit more than I want to spend.
If I went S4 route then heated seats is a must bose would be nice, recaros, sat nav etc

so you want something for 16-17k, costs the same as (or less) than the Scoob to run.

Hmmm.

How about a Scoob?
