My friend, an ex scoobyphile changed to a Scoda RS Octavia so he could afford to buy bread again.I tried the car at 180BHP, good but a bit dull. Then he had it chipped at AMD. RR shows 216BHP and 230ft/lbs. What a difference! It torque steers now but it's V Quick with loads of torque and a great Q car. Not as quick as my 02WRXppp but similar to the standard new WRX.
If u want cheap power it's got to be one to think about...

The better bet is the Cupra R. 210bhp as std. £500 and youve got 260bhp and 275lbft. Better bet than the Skoda IMHO. Its also got much better residuals. Ive just sold mine for a massive £1,100 loss on a new car after 4 months and 4000 miles. Top value motoring.
