Been thinking about getting a personal plate for the Merc.

Nothing tacky

Just the prefix, one number, and then DTM

The Merc was more or less a homologation special for the DTM

So only the clued up/petrolheads will figure it out.

All for £400

What does everyone reckon?

Just think what mods you could get for £400.

Or look at it as 4 new tyres!!

I'm a tight b@stard.

I have a private plate on my car (Number Number Letter Letter).

I think it radically changes the way a car looks for the better, and makes it far more special. Plus you can then get a 2 yr old, half price former £50k car that people will assume is new

Depends how much of a snob you are

PS - I would get something personal rather than linked to the car so you can move it onto subsequent cars. Mine is my birthday and my initials.

A PP won't make a 10yr old Merc Cos look any newer, though!!

If you can afford to do it, then i think you should. Like the other person said, when i get one (not for a while yet) i wont be getting one linked to the car unless i know i will be keeping the car for quite a while.
I know some people dislike them, but the only ones i dont like are the really cheap 'Z' ones.

If i saw a Merc Cos 190 (which i really like anyway) with a DTM plate i would think it was cool, so if you can afford to have a car-related one go for it...

I got my wife one for her new Rav 4. It is R4 ***, with her initials. Only cost £250. She was more chuff with the number plate than the £15K I spent on the bl**dy car !!

Not sure if I would want one on my own car - still undecided. Dont' mind if my wife looks naff !!

Could have a really nice plate on my car, but I think they are dead naff, every c*nt round here has one, certain ammount of respect for funny ones or ones related to the car but your initials with several numbers, big deal, trying to hard I think, and those daft Irish ones so beloved of ancient Beemer owners, arrggghhh

Buit not as bad as the sad ***** that mis space their registrations to spell something, its a cry for help, also I work for plod and there is a big clampdown on the way.

I bought my plate from the DVLA about 5 months ago. I not a fan of plates where folks change the letters to make them into a word or rather tenious link. Name plates are cool, anything to put a shorter plate on.

I've got S2000 ** on my S2000 which looks imho. As more and more people buy s2k's, the value is going up on them so I may sell. The car had the plate on it when I bought it. Not too fussed on private plates apart from the gay font ones and overly cheeky legally ones. I do think (of course ) that moving the O to the left so the number plate reads S2000 ** rather than S200 0** is perfectly ok

I have two PP on both cars. Just a bit of fun really, only trouble is the curtain twitchers know its you and everyone that knows me, also knows it me.

The guy in Halfords, as I needed some plates making asap, knew what car it was going on and said it must have cost me 2 grand at least for the plate, I just . I hadnt got the heart to tell him I brought it off the DVLA for £399. Mind due quite a few scoob owners have commented on it and one dealer offered me 1000 more on part ex if I left it on. Think he wanted it for his demo scoob.

I bought "MY03 WRX" back in November (for the new car to arrive after March 1st ).

Most people who see the plate will think nothing of it. *All* the scoob and EVO ppl will know exactly what it means - and that makes it special.

Worth doing IMHO - and it's got to add to the value of the car throughout its life, which has to be better than initials.

just my .02

Its not an out and out buy remember like mods which you dont get any money back on... its like an investment because you can sell the plate for the same price or even more..!!

I bought 'D5 DJH' for my 21st birthday which cost me £499 all in and its now worth £1500 and thats in 2 years..!!

Well i would at least expect to get more than £499 for it because DJH initals at www.dvla-som.com start at G reg now and G13 DJH is £499..!!

I was only giving you the quote that was given to me from an internet private plate company.. You have to remember there are alot of david james, daniel james names out there e.t.c...

All i was trying to illustrate is they can be sold for either the same price or profit..

sorry mate i wasnt trying to rock the boat i was just saying that with a number like that you can always go to the dvla and get another combo of a1-y99 for £499 and unless you have the cash in your hand for your number its only worth what you payed for it .

Plates are an excellent investment if you buy wisely. I would suggest not getting anything car specific if you think you might sell in the future.

eg. BMW 1 - Cool
eg. A99 BMW - yeah right!! (tacky city)£99 from dvla bargain basement!!

Plus they attract attention from jealous vandals as well!!!

i think Claudius has a private plate TOS53R (i think it is!!)

hahahah BB

G13 DJH is £499..!!
well a g. reg is newer than a d. reg.

Tacky City to me is neon washer jets and 19" alloy wheels with 10inch brake disks or worse drum brakes behind them .
