MAZDA RX-8 UK PRICING AND SPECIFICATIONS ANNOUNCED
On-line Pre-order Facility Available
Detroit Motor Show 2003 was the venue for the first appearance of the production model of Mazda's eagerly awaited RX-8 rotary powered four-seater sports car. With the world launch of the Mazda RX-8 at Laguna Seca immediately following the Detroit Motor Show, Mazda has announced UK pricing and an on-line pre-order facility.
In line with Mazda's philosophy of offering outstanding value in cars that are fun to drive, the UK pricing of the Mazda RX-8 is extremely attractive. The low power version – 192PS – is priced at just £19,995 and the high power – 240PS – £21,995 with both versions going on sale from the end of July.
The Mazda RX-8 has been designed with both fun and functionality in mind. With a rigid chassis, sports suspension, six-speed transmission on the high power version, coupe styling, class leading handling, steering and braking and the unique and powerful Mazda rotary engine, it is a pure high performance sports car designed to be enjoyed by enthusiastic drivers. Conversely, with its freestyle rear door system allowing an ease of access to the rear two seats not found in traditional coupes, sufficient room in the rear for generously proportioned adults and a boot that allows for a realistic amount of luggage, the Mazda RX-8 eliminates the compromises normally associated with sports cars.
As with all Mazdas the RX-8 will be very well specified as standard with both models featuring 18" alloy wheels, ABS with EBD, DSC with TCS, driver, passenger, side and curtain airbags, climate control air conditioning and a BOSE
Premium Audio Sound System with nine speakers and a six CD auto-changer.
Already there is considerable demand for the Mazda RX-8 and with limited production available to the UK market and its highly attractive pricing, Mazda has established an on-line pre-ordering facility which will enable customers to get to the front of the queue. The on-line system will be available from mid February.
To pre-order a Mazda RX-8 customers need to access the secure web site www.mazdaRX8.co.uk where they can place a deposit of £1,000 via credit card, thus securing a vehicle, which will then be allocated to the dealer of their choice.
The benefits to the consumer are that they are much more likely to acquire the vehicle of their choice, be the first to receive news and details on the vehicle, some of which will be exclusive, and also be eligible for special programmes that are currently being devised for the first customers to place deposits. Specific terms and conditions will apply to this process.

Think of it as a 4 door/4 seat S2000 and you won't be far wrong. 240bhp at 8,500, RWD, 1350kg (approx) and front "midship" engine. Of course it's a rotary which makes the tech side more interesting as well.

The imported cars will NOT be of as higher spec as the UK models.
When Mazda released the RX7 some years ago, they spec'd it with EVERYTHING. The imports did not have sunroof's, air con, leather, etc.

yeah, but the chances are the euro imports will be the same spec even if the Jap ones aren't! I thought the price looked good, but its not amazing - afterall the 189bhp version is the same price as a WRX or FRS.

It is tempting. It looks like a real sports car. But what are the performance figures like? Anyone know because if it follows in the Mazda tradition it'll have painful performance to match its pleasure inducing looks

I must adnit Im sorely tempted at that price. It would be about £23500 with metallic and leather.
If it is going to have good residuals then I may put a deposit down. Just not sure how it will hold up after the scoob tho.
