Hi Guys

Just thought i let you know that i have recently purchased a MR2 Turbo (Rev3) four weeks ago, after 5yrs of owning a mint + heavily modified 2wd Cosworth (340 + bhp). The Cossie was extremley fast and i loved every minute of it. FEW cars could match the outright grunt and straightline speed, BUT it did like ALL other cars have its shortfalls as well... "average" handling for example, lovely tail end action though.

The MR2 is a different animal altogether - wild acceleration, good top speed, handling, EXCELLENT engine build quality - and good looks in IMHO.
This car is a real SPORTS car with all the right things in all the right places.

Has anyone came across these on their "travels" on the road, track etc... or via ownership? If so what do YOU think about these motors - i think they are very good all round cars if space is not an issue for you.

What have you owned and changed to with a good gut feeling and why?

I had a rev 3 mr2 t-bar turbo, i loved the car in the summer etc.... but it is a bit impractical (cosidering i am 21, and like to **** about with my mates in the car ).. i changed to an sti type-r which is a totally different car... a lot faster, better handling ( shouldn't have to explain ) Now i have an escort cos 360+ bhp....looking back, i'd prefere what i have now mate, the mr2 is good, but you'll get fed up with the lack of room and the power.... me thinks anyway

hi mate...
yup got to agree with you excellent little cars....

I've got one at the moment is up for sale from 2day but not a rev3 its a J plate....
i test drove a standard turbo mr2 first but although it drove 110% it didn't have the GRUNT of a turbo car.....
so i now have one that has a s/s steel exh, HKS filter/dump valve sounds excellent and goes like **** off a shovel

Cool

Thanks for the replies guys

Kung Fu - what revision of MR2 did you have?

Can honestly say that it will take a long time before i get bored with this as i have another car (Saloon) for day to day use and this car is purely a toy for pleasure - nice and appropiate for what i want.

Regards

It had a full hks stainless steel exhaust, with a 5 " exit and a baily dump valve....really nice deep note of the exhaust and the dv sounded enough to turn heads
There were 16" momo arrow wheels and standard suspension.
Half leather/suede interior which was real sweet looking.
They are a really good, quick car....just a pity they hadn't 4 seats (but then you would buy a gt4 )....

Cool

Thanks for the info Kungfu - nice cossie BTW....lovely.

Hi Dream Weaver, nice looking car - It seems as though no one really knocks these cars apart from wet road performance, as bad as others i have seen & read about on the BB - must say something i think.

Never had a NA MR2, but can say if you want a turbo go for it i doubt very much that you will regret it.

Regards

Wet performace is great fun once you get used to it.

Doing 180deg powerslides to turn around in the road is also "useful" (obviously on a quiet private road though)

I had a REV2 T-Bar turbo.

Get a haward and scott de-cat pipe for 95 quid, best mod I ever did, it boost more and spool up time is loads better.

MRD make some good kit for them,I had the exhaust from them V.loud but the car felt loads quicker.

Make sure you run it on SUL or optimax.

I now drive a Clio Cup.

Any more questions give us a mail.

Thanks Scott

Who sells these down pipes mate?
Yep, i run all of my cars on optimax used to use SUL (Esso) but changed - thinking of changing back though, Optimax seems a little "Hit & Miss" for performance.
If you or anyone else have used both fuels did you notice any difference between Optimax & SUL (Esso)in your MR2 and decided if one was better than the other for performance, thats all i am interested in not MPG or anything else...

Thanks

MR Turbo

Agreed, Optimax in my 2 seems to be good sometimes, then not others. Best by far is Esso SUL as it really smooths town driving, but gives a huge gain in throttle response when giving it some.

But...it is about 90p/litre around here, so I use Optimax.

MRD are at www.fastmr2.com i think.
I dont know the web address for hayward and scot.

I used Optimax no probs at all, I think the Rev3+ are more tolerant to ****ty fuel then the previous rev's.

Does anyone know this guy?

Would be interesting to see if he still has his MR2 & what mods he has done to it.

Any MR2 or Cossie followers know him?
