I know some of you have had Audi S3's and I know they are blinding cars but how do they stack up agains the STI 7 uk version.

I know build quality is second to none in the Audi but I was looking for performance differences.
0-60
0-100
60-0
50-70
BHP and Torque figures ETC ETC ETC.

Thanks Dirky.

Without looking anything up, the Stardard Sti7 has 265 ps and the S3 210 or 225 and weights about the same. On a track / runway the STI IMO will have the edge, but in the real word, the white van man is king !!!

I had an extended test-drive in an S3 last year (pre-power hike) and forget the STI7 my standard UK MY99 was more than a match for it. S3 is quick but nowhere near as sure-footed...

IMHO!

Note that the S3 has a relatively cheap chip upgrade (ie. less than PPP for STI7) that should produce around 280bhp. Ditto for TT, Octavia RS, etc. Might even be dealer supplied.

Chap I know spent about 3k on his, including chip, uprated brakes, springs and alloys; which sounds quite good value, imo.

Ah but unlike the PPP for the STi7 type UK a chip on an S3 invalidates the warranty......

... unelss you go to a particular couple of Audi dealers who have 'tacit' links with a well respected tuner. Then you will not have warranty issues.

I've got a V5 type R scoob and considered getting a new S3 (225bhp), until i test drove few, i've only just woken up months later,i was fast asleep during the test drive. They are nice cars, but if you want a bit of fun get a scoob and put a nice exhaust on it. I've also been in a chipped one,the same boring drive just a bit faster.

I originally had a 97P Scooby and traded it in for one of the first S3's. Had the car for over 2 years, excellent build quality, interior etc. The only problem is that the car never gives you the opportunity to smile to yourself. You spend all of your time thinking back to the turbo rush of the Scooby. Traded the car in this year for an STI7 and haven't stopped smiling. No comparison really, plus you get 4 doors and a boot the golf clubs can fit into without taking the back seat down.

I really like Audi's but for me, the main reason I didn't test drive one is that it is only 3 doors. For some people that is fine, but my wife and just found a 3 dr car just to inconvient. Thats what I like about the Impreza, its a fast car that is still pratical. Apart from the fact that the Sti's rear seats don't fold down

Give me a RS4 anyday

S3 is a better long term ownership prospect, better image, build, residuals etc etc, spend 2.5k on a chip, suspension and brakes and will be a match for any scoob
