Honda Prelude 2.2 vti (Any Good?)
#2
if you're talking about the vtec 2.2 models '92 etc they are pretty good, solid, reliable, good handling, engine sounds sweet when in the vtec zone and when using the vtec system are very thirsty. 0-60 in 6.6 i think. if you're on about the ugly later ones then i have no experience of them.

The last of the Preludes was a great car to drive, the styling wasn't to everyone's tastes but I certainly liked them. The ride and handling more than made up for the styling though. Performance is strong with a VTEC kick in the higher rev range, though nothing as fierce as in the Type-R VTEC's. 135-140mph is the top whack with low 7 secs 0-60mph.
The UK supplied 2.2i VTEC engines came initally with 182bhp driving through a 5-speed manual or 4-speed auto with manual sequential shift. Honda call the latter the SSS auto gearbox. Towards the end of the run the manual versions had their engines uprated to 200bhp (its worth searching for one of these), though the engine for the auto was unchanged. Motegi special editions come with 17-inch alloys and a full bodykit, both of which really improve the looks.
Reliability was first/is first class, with the Prelude usually in the JD Power top ten for customer satisfaction, I think it finished as high as third one year. Excellent cars to own, just watch out for the insurance as it can be a bit steep.
