Well, after 35,000 miles, the Mrs decided to get her Clio a full service to coincide with it's 1st MOT. I knew the brake pads were worn out, so I replaced them yesterday (£15 from Halfords) rather than pay the quoted £80. One of the disks was a little corroded around the edge, but I got my mate to look at it, who was an MOT tester until he became an aircraft fitter. He said it wasn't that bad, he normally pass with a warning.
So, she phones them this lunchtime for an update. The car has failed it's MOT, apparently it needs 2 new disks and pads and the rear number plate was cracked. Strangely enough, when I phoned them and eplained how I'd replaced the pads yesterday afternoon and that the number plate wasn't cracked this morning they admitted only the one disk was a problem (although, obviously you replace disks as a pair). We declined their kind offer to do the work.
I think perhaps a word with Trading Standards and/or MOT Inspectorate may be in order...

Update:
She went to pick the car up and they hadn't done the one thing we asked them to do, which was fix the speedo which reads whatever speed it feels like. Lo and behold, she paid for the service, left the dealer, got in the car and found the speedo reading 160mph
Also, despite the fact the car has 35,865 miles on it, and a major service is due at 36,000 miles, and we asked for a major service, they've done a minor service.
So, we have their courtesy car and we're not giving it back until our car is sorted.
If you asked my advice it would be this: avoid Caledonia Renault like the plague.

Can vouch for how poor Renault customer service is. Used to own a Clio a while back - radiator needed replacing, which was done ok apart from them stuffing up fitting one of the hoses - net result, back to Renault for a new hose, which they insisted was not their fault. OK not a major thing, but what I didn't expect was to hear them slagging me off when they thought I was out of earshot!!
Will never buy another Renault (no matter how tempting a 172 is!!). Honestly consider them to be worse than Fiat, who I have also had bad experiences with!!

OH MY GOD! It gets worse, they've told us today that we'll have to pay for the speedo as the extended warranty ran out on 30th November, even though we booked the car in 3 weeks ago and this was the first space they had available with a courtesy car.
Someone at Caledonia Warrington will be spending the night in Warrington General at this rate...

Notorious -- I've had good success getting work done on "goodwill" after the warranty has expired, e.g. £400 of new wiring loom for my father-in-law's Escort when it was 6 months out of warranty.
The speedo is a should-never-fail item, so I'd go straight to Renault UK customer service, tell them the score, and they will kick the dealer for you. Call them first, if that don't work, write a letter.
Tell them how disappointed you are that the speedo doesn't work -- putting your wife at risk of being done by cameras etc etc -- and how the response from the dealer is not what you expect for such a fundamental fault.
Sic' em!

This sucks, because it's the extended warranty bought from the dealer and not the manufacturers warranty Renault UK won't do anything to help. So, watch the North West news tonight. I'm going to set fire to the courtesy car and drive it into their showroom at about 60mph while people are still in there. It will be spectacular.

Just for the record Fish brothers renault in Swindon are the same (IMO) couldn't care less.
In fact there are no really good garages in Swindon
Caledonia Renault in Doncaster however are fantastic (best garage I've ever dealt with)
