Expect to see further discounting when they get around to building them with the new engines...

That 'Endura-E' unit ir whatever it's called is well passed its sell by date!

I guess once the StreetKa is out the new engines will start filtering though..

My GF has a 5yr old 1.3 and it's fine really, but it's not hard to imagine how much better it could be with a smoother engine!

PS. Anyone know when the cambelt is due on them?

A lot of the Ford dealers in the South East have them, names escape but they were advertised at £4995 by two seperate dealer groups in the Evening Standard motoring suplement on Friday. They must however be registered by Christmas. Have a search for a dealer in or around London and give them a ring.

Apparently they have the oldest engine in production today.

Don't forget that the guys on top gear can get these 'great' prices as it's free marketing by the manufacturers so you get there & they say 'sorry sold out' or 'but that's for ones without XYZ' but we do have one at £xxxx if you're interested etc...

Not all of them granted, but take these price 'statements' with a pinch of salt etc...

The dealer I spoke to had access to over 200 KA's at £4995.

The reason for the cheap deal is simple. Next year to co-incide with the launch of the StreetKA and SportKA, the other KA's are going to get a slight makeover. I don't know about any styling changes but the current engine will definitely be replaced by the 1.3 litre unit in the new Fiesta, so instead of 59bhp it will be 68bhp. Therefore they are selling all the old versions they can at a very attractive price. Remember 6 months ago this car was £6495 OTR and even then it was good value compared to its competitors.

Cool

Reffro, the car will be getting the 1.25 Zetec SE as currently fitted to Ka's on sale in France, Spain & Germany, the engine currently fitted to UK cars is the original Ford Anglia 'Kent' Crossflow unit with a 3 bearing crank. The reason for this is that the engine plant in Valencia could not be closed down due to Spanish employment laws, therefore they kept the plant open and fitted the engines into cars destined for the country with the most gullible mugs.

Nahh, the 1.25 Zetec-S engine is going to be phased out when the facelift KA arrives.

Question

What do you get for £4477? PAS? Any toys? Looks like a great price... Might have to get one as a second car @ that price!

beemerboy - do you work for Ford then.

can anyone have one at that price ? if theres a chance could you furnish me with the garage name ?

I agree that the engine is old - but for less than £5k - seems a good buy to me.
wife had one for two years - it ran with no problems at all.
cheap parts and who needs dealer serviceing on one of these.

it was very very nippy round town - get in and drive scenario.
no alarms - steering lock, wheel lock, 1/2 hour cooling down for turbo.

My apologies reffro, you are indeed right, does the new 1.3 retain the yamaha head?

The best one of the current cars to get is the boggo one with PAS, the extra toys do make their wight apparent in such a light low powered car, and deffo do NOT get one with A/C, ours has it and it is 'kin useless, it nearly halves the car's fuel economy around town, yet still fails to cool the car adequately.

No worries mate, though I have cheated slightly, its my job to know this stuff, I work for a car data company.

The 1.3 engine is a revision of the current 1.3 to smooth it up a bit, and the meet forthcoming emissions limits. It doesn't have the Yamaha head, just a plain old 8-valve unit, but that is what you need in a car designed primarily as a town/city car.

If you are looking for performance the SportKa is going to cover that, 1.6 litre approx 100bhp.

As for the current KA its an absolute riot to drive, you can drive the nuts off it everywhere, and the handling is vice free. Brakes aren't much cop but there are remedies to cover that, though if its only town work, there are no worries. I almost bought one in October when they had the free insurance offers, I'm just waiting for that to come round again and I'll snap their arms off.

As an aside their was talk of the 1.25 unit as used in the Fiesta Si at the time going in the KA, but the name KA Si didn't look right....
