Fastest/best N/A car for 14k
#1
Hi all, just wondering i hopefully may be getting an evo5 BUT if i change jobs and increase milage i dont think it would be worth running a turbo car..... I know that a n/a car should be cheaper to run unless its got a v8 or sumthing!!! lol
my question is what is the fastest/best normally aspirated car for 14k ( doesnt have to be new max 5 years old)
I was thinking about an M3 but im not a big fan, intega type r isnt exactly mega fast is it?... i dont know what else as i ve got my heart set on an evo5. :-(

THE fastest NA car for 14k will be a Megablade (or even older Megabusa)
330bhp/tonne (thats as much as a Diablo), and a sequential 6 speed gearbox. But no roof/windscreen/doors mean it isn't exactly a realistic everyday prospect.
Other than that, the Integra/RSX is probably the ticket, and great fun to boot, unless you go older and go for an E30 M3 or E36 M3, or the merc equivalent (190E 2.3/5-16 Cosworth or C36/43). If comofort is an factor, an old BMW 850i (5.0 V12) will be quick and runnign costs won't be bad from a non-franchised dealer.

err im 24 years old and i really want an lancer evo 5 and if i had to get a n/a motor it would have to have as similar performance as possible and its got to be used every day aswell..
i dont know what to do, but the next car i get has got to be much faster than my corrado g60 for sure!!!!
its a shame turbo cars are so thirsty!! but i really want one unless i get a job which requires i do more than 40 miles a day... i think 40 miles a day would be too many miles for an evo!

IMO with this choice there really is only one option (bias here) Dont have one anymore though.
The E36 M3!
Stunning (if often copied) looks, great image, everybit as fast as an Evo5 (faster in the case of the M3Evo) fantastic long distance car - very comfortable cruiser, great handling and very reliable. Oh and the noise from that straight 6 is awe inspiring!
Did 65,000 miles in mine in 3 years and it never missed a beat. Swapped it for an Mcoupe now which is a little, erm, hairier?

im a bit scared of scoobys now, read too many engine faliures of low milages sti's, cant take that sort of risk...
as for the m3 well my cousin had one (3.0l) and it did go like hell but its just not me, they look far too ordinary for my liking.. very reliable i agree, all he had to do is change one light bulb in 2 years...
there must be other cars whith similar performance of the m3???.. im a bit stuck here, what about n/a supra's? any good or is the turbo miles better???

What about a lefty Audi TT 180 ?
Could get Seat Leon Cupra, you can get one from Motorpoint for £12,999. I don't think there too thirsty. Nice looking motor though and fairly quick.

nothing wrong with imprezas.
you need to know which mods are more than likely to avoid engine failures and treat the car well.
you hear about plenty that fail, but remember there are thousands more that run faultlessly.
I ran imprezas for 50k before any problems!
evo 5 in for sale for 11,800 is a bargain.
turbos are fine for cruising as they run zero boost at that point.
You will never get similar performance to these cars for the money you are looking at. Not in a saloon with four doors and a boot.
closest would be m3 and that is thirsty and you have already dismissed.
If you want performance from any car you will have to forget economy, simple as that. The two are mutually exclusive.
Ironicallt, I have just bought a corrado G60 from a scoob!

Adam M,
Wouldn't say the M3 is thirsty, a mate of mine had an E36 Evo & tootling about town & Motorway driving he always used to get around 30mpg, dipped down to 20 when thrashing.
MozzaITA,
If you decide on the M3 mate make sure it has a BMW warranty (not just dealer) as if things go wrong such as the Vanos unit you are looking at a 2k bill!!!

I dont know what to do anymore, im really unhappy at work and i travel hardly any distance to it (24 miles a day) i really need to change job but if i do find one it will probably be more milage and then i wouldnt be able to get my dream car... :-(
ahhhh, time will tell, i know what you are saying about impreza's but knowing my luck i would be one of the people who would end up with a 3k engine bill, tooo risky besides ive always wanted a Lancer evo.

I know you aren't too keen on them, but I'd recommend an M3 if you're not going for an EVO V. I myself am considering both these cars and no matter how hard I look I cannot find another to match them for practicality, price and pace. At the moment I'm swaying towards the M3 as they're quicker in a straight line once on the move, are no slouches in the bends and are also much more economical, comfortable and better equiped with cheaper insurance and longer service intervals to boot. They also have 1/2 a Mclaren F1 engine which sounds the business.

I dont think i can have an M3, its just so not me, really bored of the looks of the 3 series, it does nothing for me, as for performance i know they are quick as my cousin had one for 2 years. all in all i really dont like them enuff to spend all my money on it, this will be the most expensive car that ive owned and to spend it on sumthing which i dont really like seems a bit odd.
the new m3 is a different ball game!!! shame u cant get one for 14k though!!! lol

HI
you might lagh at this but how about an old shape mini, but hold on there is a catch, with a integra typr r engine, and fully sorted suspension, so the insurance might be cheap and i think they are sold at around 10k or they supply you with a kit and you can build it yourself, and can this thing go or what!!!
