Audi S3 [225bhp] - anyone got one ?
#1
Thinking of getting one of these next.
Just wondering if we have any owners on here? I've heard the engine tolerances are quite exploitable - up to 300bhp ?

Generally the AMD Chip takes the car to 270bhp and 300lbs ft!
If you planning to chip it dont bother going for the 225bhp model... it just has a slightly different chip than the 210 bhp version... other than that they just have a different engine code.
Save your money, buy the 210 car and spend the extra on a AMD chip with 'Valet' mode (when you take car to garage and leave it... pop valet mode on and the car will not run any boost and only do 50mph max ) Then you will have a more powerful car and still have some change in your pocket!

Thanks for the advice guys.
270bhp would put it in STi territory I'd imagine, as they probably weigh the same as a scoob or lighter.
Do they handle ?

Well they do have Audi's 4wd Quattro set up, but the early models Pre-2001 do tend to have 'nice' suspension... i.e. a fair amount of body roll with ok grip.
Although I have not driven a post 2001, I have been told that the body roll has been reduced.
Nothing a set of springs couldnt cure I imagine... bit like the Eibachs for the UK Scoob I imagine!
Hope this helps!
Go have a look at www.audi-sport.net it is a good source of info...

The original RS4 wheels were weak (I had a couple on mine), but Ive not seen many reports on them on TT's or S3's. Audi have released a hardened wheel for the RS4 now as well

Having driven an A3 for over 30k's worth of miles, and had an S3 has a courtesy car for a large number of miles (salesman! ), this car has got to be one of the most uncomfortable drives I've ever experienced.
The seats gave me back ache after a couple of hours in the car (I'm 6ft 3). I found the driving position an absolute nightmare, and TBH I wouldn't purchase one. I was also fortunate to drive a 1.8T Quattro that had been treated to the AMD treatment, and it did go quite well (TBH I thought it flew at the time, but that was before Scooby days ) but I just could not cope with the crappy seats.

LOL @ Scott...
I would say the absolute opposite... I loved the drive I had in the S3, i thought it was very very comfortable especially with the centre arm rest... at the time it just wasnt raw enough for me.... hense I got the Scoob.
Maybe you just too tall Scott??? (I am 5ft 6 For Daz's attention)
Hang on Scott... was that when you was a porker b4 u started going down the gym?? Maybe the seats couldn't handle you??

Agree with Plantie, the S3 and A3 T Sport seats are amongst the most supportive comfortable seats I have ever sat in.
Better than any mainstream manufacturer plus BMW, Jaguar IMO etc.
(5' 10" btw)

Lots of Misinformation on this thread.
1- AMD do not offer the valet mode chip that is APR
2- AMD will not get 300 bhp and 270ft/lb with just a chip, circa 260 and 260
3- TT/S3 wheels do not bend it was the original RS4 wheels which were designed to deform to protect the suspension, now being replaced free of charge by audi
4- S3 seats are by recaro and generally thought to be up there with the best seats in the world
5- TT has std quattro GMBH suspension as of 2002 the S3 doesn't it is a cost extra on new cars, the general upgrade is H&R Springs and Koni Dampers- great mod

My friend here at work had his S3 done recently & achieved the figures above. I didn't believe him until he produced a printout from AMD.
Apparantly his has a few more BHP than standard - which apparantly is quite common - Same as the UK Scoobys - standard cars regularly see 220-230 bhp on the rollers.

Hello
AMD figures- well are you sure this didn't include other work such as FMIC and and Exhaust, Sports Cats etc as that is unheard of from just a map??
As for the suspension Audi changed the standard spec on 2002 model TT's to incorporate Quattro GMBH (the equivilant of STI for scoobs i suppose) sports suspension all models before this sat 20mm higher with less aggresive dampers.
The S3 still has the same suspension as the original TT's, the Sports Option is an factory extra which is expensive and audi specifically state that the ride suffers as a result of this kit but handling is improved.
so as foa as i am aware this has only recently become an option.
As for the Koni/H&R stuff it is more forgiving than the OEM sports kit and has better damping qualities, so if you are in the mkt for a TT or S3 and ithas the koni stuff fitted it will be better than the Audi stuff
Hope this helps

Foz... you mentioned the info about the wheels were incorrect... I was talking about the RS4 Wheels in the pic above...
The S3 17 inch wheels are very strong....
All wheel problems have been corrected.

So are the TT /S3 RS4 style wheels, they are 18's and there are no reports of them deforming, the 17" wheels look really dated next to the 18"s now so are worth paying a bit extra for IMO

Oops maybe be a boo-boo on my part... Are the TT/S3 Rs4 style wheels now standard on the New S3?
My initial comment was on the pic... which i thought had the wheels on as an option...
I appologise if i have caused confusion!

Foz, thanks for that.
So when you mention the Koni suspension, as you call 'general upgrade' - who would fit this ? Do you mean I'd have to buy the stuff myself loose, or can it be bought as an upgrade kit from somewhere ?

The Koni H&R Kit is available anywhere, well its not a kit but it is the most common suspension mod for the TT and S3 and works well, any garage will fit the stuff, budget 150 to fit plus allignment check and approx 400 for the koni's and 180 for the springs.
can get coilovers etc but they aint cheap, like twice the price
