Well the RS has been 'Top Hot Hatch' for almost a fortnight, before getting it ripped away by the Alfa 147 GTA - acccording to EVO magazine (who were also the biggest fans of the RS).

Expected to be c£1000 more than the RS, but boasts better kit, as well as 25% more power AND doesn't need to get lazy and use a turbo to do so.

The Queer is dead - long live the king.

The interior looks lovely from the pic's in Evo. Class vs the brash blue in the Focus.

...and as soon as the R32 Golf comes out I wouldn't be surprised
if the Alfa gets beaten according to one of the magazines.....

The answer is to buy the magazine that suits your personal car preference.

After all, when they were new the 309 Gti beat the Astra GTE 16v wich in turn beat the Golf Gti 16v.....

14 years later and everyone reckons the Golf is best.....

Depends which car suits you really thought doesn't it?

Everyone, nah no way. Fiat Strade Abarth was way superior and I think many people who've driven both would agree.

I think the Alfa looks the business and would be well happy to have that in my car park.

LOL at brash RS focus comments and thats coming from the scooby brigade nothing like the pot calling the kettle black is there.

Many reviews favour the Focus Tiff Needel deemed them equal summarising that the Focus was a better enthusiasts car. At least the Focus wont fall apart like the Alfa and then there are the residual's Alfa owners will weep

Maybe not, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a headline like
"4wd Supergolf Snatches King Hot Hatch" title......only to lose it a week after!

Lol More rubbish spouting by DBA and the moderator who started this post.
It seems that scoob owners hate the fact that FORD have produced a better vehicle that there beloved Impreza WRX.
Sensibly what would you pay for a 12 month old WRX 10k - 11k I can get a new UK car for seventeen not that I would want one for one reason only depreciation.
Have you bothered to look at the predicted residual values of the RS LOL at the end of one year I could sell my RS and buy nearly two 147's

I drove a 156 GTA a couple of weeks back and I reckon they're underrated by the mags. The 147 must be blinding. Alfa v6's are gas guzzlers though

The interior on a Scooby is crap, not brash. It doesn't have bits of blue slapped on the steering wheel.

Alfa's are not as unreliable and as badly built as people think. Build quality is equal to mast mainsteam manufacturers.

Its the dealers that are crap, they are by far the worst of any car manufacturer. A small fault that would be an hours job for a scoob dealer will no doubt turn into a four visit nightmare at an Alfa/Fiat dealership. Its the inability of the dealers to rectify the simple problems with the cars that are destroying Fiat/Alfa's reputation.

One guy on the Alfa BBS had an actuator failing on his selespeed gearbox, a simple fault to find and inexpensive to repair. His car broke down 14 times before they fixed it!!!!!! Total incompetence.

Tut tut Chris, you should know we're not allowed to express any opinion of any kind...

Never driven the RS, don't really fancy it as I like being able to drive over a less than perfect road making good progress without needing brown trousers and the forearms of Vin Diesel.

If I did want a 3 door car, the Clio Cup would be my choice

Co55ie,
we all know what the predicted resedues are going to be on the Focus RS, the ones they wouldnt have sold/sold back after a month will still be around 18k after 18 months, this is because no one will want to buy a flawed car here, suddenly these cars prices will plumet to 10k due to the fact that the ford dealerships cant get rid of them after 2 years (reminds you of the Racing Puma doesnt it ).
The WRX isnt the worlds most perfect nor the quickest car but the one thing it does is give you a good and balanced ride over all road surfaces, its got some minor flaws but nothing as serious as the flaws the focus rs has.
If it was all about power then id shove a 2ltr turbo engine into a nova but it would drive like cr@p, thus the same with the focus rs from the reports and the people who have had test drives in it (this includes potential owners BTW ) so basically no one has given this car a good word.... says something doesnt it

Co55ie,

Focus was a better enthusiasts car
hahahh what young mum's and grandads????

you make me laugh with your seeming knowledge of residuals.

how much you spent on your cossie?? how much is it worth now??

oh, nothing and nothing...because it doesnt exist.

You should get out more and stop reading pathetic geeky 0-60 times to 15 decimal places!!!

Why do all ford engines sound like a bag of nails after 1500 miles???? - answer that one you know-all twonk!!

BB

<co55ie>
A tuned Focus RS will be able to do 0-60 in 1.1 seconds and have a top speed of over 340mph.

And they will go up in value by almost 200% after a year, so you could sell it and get a Ferrari.

Ford's are the best built cars in the world and never break down, ever.
</co55ie>

Given a choice between my current vehicle, and a focus rs, I would keep my current vehicle, thanks. Co55ie, if you want a focus, buy a focus. However, forcing your opinion *repeatedly* on others simply means they start ignoring your message... it is a bit self-defeating.

Happy motoring in your focus (when you get it), but leave the trolling alone, eh?

Red face

Can't we all live and let live ?

Personally, I just want to enjoy driving a car, rather than get into a "my X is better than your Y" slagging match.

I drive a modded Scooby, but I know it's not the be all and end all.

Opinion over...awaiting the flame thrower

Clio Cup - As quick as both and oonyl weighs 1000kg ish
Clio Cup - 168 bhp/tonne
147 GTA - 195 bhp/tonne

Thats the same difference as between a WRX and an STi

AND the Alfa is fully loaded AND has about the best soundtrack in the world.

Jon1t,

was IN an RS at Snetterton Evo mag day, never actually said i drove it myself (or at least i think i didn't)

btw,i was at Donnington the day before and the quickest car by far was a Clio Cup Racing, unbelievable corner speed and was able to get past 2 350bhp Cossies, which were driven well
edit, bugger,i did say "driven",should have said driven in,bugger again, was just trying to wind the Cossie bloke up anyway, which is daft, because he's only taking the **** out of everyone anyway,

second edit, tunrd 147 was driven by me though because its mine

Tony - I checked before posting 1011kg, 170 bhp.

170/1.011 = 168.1 bhp/tonne

Still a lard **** compared to the westie - 400kg
