I have a plan...

Buy a LHD rare car from the EU, keep it for 3-6 months (registered in the original country) and then register it and sell it again.

But I have some questions -
1 Can I legally do this?
2 Would trade insurance cover me to do this?
3 What countries are best to do this?
4 Do I need to deregister the car when I buy it or just wait until I register it in the UK?
5 Is it easy enough to resell LHD cars in the UK?
6 Does anyone have any contacts for buying cars abroad (I'd like to buy direct)?
7 Any suggestions for good models to import?

So far I've thought of Audi RS2 (maybe a little pricey), Lancia Delta (reliable?), BMW E30 M3...

You're right to single out cars that only came in LHD here, LHD normal cars are a nightmare. If they're second hand (over 6 months iirc) then no tax liability so don't see why you'd want to avoid registering them etc.
Seems like a long way round to deal in cars to me though?

The only problem you might have is getting insurance. I drove a LHD jag for a while in the UK and when declaring this to the insurance the next question was, Is it registered in the UK?.
