Did any of you guys see clarkson unleased the other night on cable they had i think 20 of the the uk's quikest escort cosworths, thy all run up a runway the winner was a MA develapment car with id say at least 400+bhp theway it tramped up the run way over the rest them. It then went on to race a standard wrx sti typeR around a set out track even with all this im going to **** on you power and handling that co55ie spouts off about,They both finished together a dead heat to close to call, And the scooby was being driven by a women.

And before you start saying that clarkson is a crap driver he has driven cars a lot farster than yours and cost more than most houses. i know he ant the best driver in the world but he is probably a better drive than you and most people.

So why did the most farstest escort cosworth in the uk fail to bet a STANDARD scooby around a track with at least 100-150 bhp more than the stanard 300bhp scooby.

I know clarkson forgot about your cossie co55ie LOL

Can i borrow some ones flame suit. This ant a pop at cosworths just thinking out loud, i love all fast cars

Thumbs up

PMSL@Fastest Cossie in the UK, not by a LONG way, even then.

PMSL@Beliving any clarkson video is anything but the biggest fix ever, they all are, it makes a more interesting video. They did LOADS of runs that day, you see lots of pieces of different ones, and a few nice staged scenes. there were lots of people there that day, ask them the real result! ahem, destroyed.

PMSL@Scoobynet, no matter what the forum, its always full of scooby vs cossie arguing, lets jus get a massive RSOC BB vs Scoobynet shootout to shut people up. 0-60, 0-100, 1/4mile, top speed, fastest lap, whatever.

IMO best one to measure speed would be 50-150mph (or 40-140, whatever) timed runs, thats easy enough with todays GPS timing gear(perf' ford mag actually owns some of the aformentioned timing gear).

Whats the fastest recorded scooby times for various things in this country? Ive a few scooby and cossie ones here....

Ten Of The Best, HANDLING circuit-
Best Scoob Time, John Felstead, 34.25secs
Best Cossie Time, Gareth Lloyd, 31.84secs

Ten Of The Best 500m Drag Sprint times-
Best Scoob, Mark Aigin, 13.45secs
Best Cossie, Gareth Lloyd, 12.40secs
And for more fun, second best cossie also beat best scoob time and it was REAR WHEEL DRIVE, Mark Shead (In Rod Tarrys car), 13.39secs

Ten Of The Best Standing Start 1.25mile Top Speed Times-
Best Scoob- Tim Whiteside, 166mph
Better Cossies- Sean Bicknell 168mph, Andy Wornell 170mph, Kevin Sharp 171mph, Gareth Lloyd 173mph, Mark Shead 174mph, Steve Scott 177mph, and fastest on day, Derek Burleigh 177mph.

Palmersport trackday results from Bedford Aerodrome (31/8/02)-
Top Three Scoob Times- Stef Reader 2min53secs, David Coyne 2min56secs, Michael Herbert 2min58secs.
Top Three Cossie Times- Martin Hadland 2min38secs, Sean Bicknell 2min42secs, Dan Lewis (yea, "Renton" editor of REDLINE mag) 2min50secs.
The fastest cossie that day was 3rd overall behind a radical SR3 and a R500 caterham.
Was also 15seconds faster than the quickest scoob (over jus one lap remember).
And all the cossies beat the fastest scooby lap time.
Tiff Nedell in a Porsche GT2 got 2min49secs that same day BTW.

Thats the only comparison results i can find, but heres 2 more i can think of.

Fastest Cosworth timed 0-60s lately have been 2.99secs and 3.05 (different days, have the 3.05run on vid clip on pc, id post it if i had somewhere to host it), both done by the same car, a saphirre cosworth, with full interior, road tyres, and a hoofin great sub box in boot!
Fastest Cosworth top speed is 187.8mph at bruntingthorpe (which is way too short as most cars are still accelerating when they need to brake, if you get me...).

Anyone know of any proven good scooby times from this country ive not added?

So far the scoobs getting pasted on handling, top speed, and acceleration...

Cheers, Steve

I would like to point out that i drive a Scoob!
However, VBH is a trained racing driver, whereas Mr C ain't! But it doesn't matter a toss, that was sooooo staged for the purposes of the video.

<flame suit on>
Judging by how that Cossie stuffed the other modded Cossies, i don't think a standard STi would pose too many problems for it in the real world.

Agree with Brun here, (this one has been done to death aswell, ever since the video came out about 2 years ago). That race was sooo staged, as are pretty much every race around a race track done on these video's. eg. watched a video of Clarkson the other week showing on Sky where Tiff was driving the M5 & Clarkson was driving an XJ-R.....& Clarkson was right on his chuff all the way. Now I would say that Tiff is leagues above Clarkson in drivning ability, so therefore that would mean the XJ-R would have to be a good 25% faster/better (just a guess) than the M5 for that to be able to happen.....& that just aint so I'm affraid.

A car will be quicker than a bike round a track. They have a lot more rubber on the ground=more grip. Easier to drive, better brakes. A bike may be quicker in a straight line, but much harder to drive at the limit and fast round corners.
Its only a few diehard bikers who disbelieve.

All the Clarkson vid's are staged! A mate of mine was involved with one when he let them use his Callaway Twin Turbo Corvette. The Callaway came out better than the film crew had counted on so a little artisic licence was used in the editing process

Question

(firstly not a scooby or cossie owner)

Not got time to pick through all the bias above, but at least compare like for like

Ten Of The Best, HANDLING circuit-
Best Scoob Time, John Felstead, 34.25secs
Best Cossie Time, Gareth Lloyd, 31.84secs

JF's car is a Standard STI RA with uprated brakes, Gareth Lloyd's is a stripped out highly tuned, tarmac stage suspensioned car! John could use his car daily for shopping etc and carry a family of four, Gareth could not!

Scooby tuning is not a far forward in the UK as it is in Jap/Aus (though there as some bigger power scoobies on their way at the mo) and whereas the Cossie was an instantly picked up on as a car to tune, the scooby was picked up on as a farmers car initially!

Anyway please compare apples with apples not apples with goats!

At the CCC day earlier this year the SIDC enclosure was next to the RS stand, plenty of good natured banter and nobody slating anybody, just cause a few ppl on here (a Subaru BBS) like to big up their cars we get invaded by Ford anoraks.

I'm sure somewhere there's a Maxpower BBS with kids bigging up there Novas and how they burnt off a Scoob on the way home from the youth club, that doesn't worry me and I certainly feel no need to go on there and rubbish their claims, who cares ?

You enjoy your car and I'll enjoy mine, if your worried about what a few misinformed ppl on a BBS think about your car maybe you have an inferiority complex ?

There are **** on both communities, I'm not gonna delude myself and think that a lardy 280bhp STi7 is gonna strip a cossie of any description, but I want a car that I can do 800 miles a week in and have as near 100% reliability as possible, that dont apply to any cossie.

No doubt the new RS is gonna rape a bug-eye WRX, Ford would be pretty stupid to bring out a car that was inferior to any of the current crop of Jap rockets, they damn sure are not going to make a penny out of them tho, its all a numbers game.

Bring out an AWD 300bhp jobby and I'll join the queue, but for now I wont be losing any sleep over any cossie, new or old.

I think scooberts post pretty much sums up why scoobynet has a bad rep with all other BBs for being tossers...

Its a small minority of tossers, but they seem to post a hell of a lot more than the normal minority who jus accept we all got different (but still bloody good) cars, and thas all there is to it.

Steve,

As has been mentioned, John Felstead's car is pretty close to standard AFAIK, with some suspension mods, and wheels and tyres. Gareth's car is a mental stripped out rally car, sequential 7 speed (I think) - I think all that shows is John's ability behind the wheel.....

Any car is quick in the right hands......

true, thats why i put in the bedford lap times too.

gareth was on CRUTCHES at ten of the best, so i doubt that helped! and a big ****off laggy (he doesnt run any form of ALS to help, so hed have no booost before 4500ish) T4'd RS500 touringcar engine that gareths got wouldve been a nightmare for the tight twists on that handling track, i doubt even the quickest cars did over 60mph anywhere on that track, was tight as ****. Enginewise the Scoob prolly had an advantage, had more useable power on that track, but i dunno, i watched it, not participated.

Anyway, whos got some scoob timed figures? ive not seen hardy any.

You know guys this could run forever. People bringing up facts and figures and slating the other....

My gran has just died and i came on here tonight to get some relief from the stress the family is under just now,but its the old story of "mines is better than yours" which we all like to partake in now and again.

It needs to be kept friendly though, and jokingly done as i tried above in my last comment. When it becomes hard-nosed and handbags then its getting silly.

We all need to agree that most of us who post have got what we would like to think of as a good performance car, and regardless of who thinks what make is superior, what we need to remember is that theres ALWAYS someone with a bigger, better and faster car out there, be it a faster Cossie or a Subaru or whatever.

Whats happened in my life this week has made me realise a little that who has the fastest lap time REALLY doesnt matter when it comes to it, life is too short, we all have aspirations of having the best but in true, none of us probably ever will.

In short guys, a bit of banter between BB users and Owners Clubs is a great laugh as i will admit, but lets keep it easy going, its not that important surely is it ?

Ok thats my rant over

Cheers for reading
Michael
PS...Cossies still beat any scoob i know of LOL

This was done about 18/24 months ago with 4 models of each car, with the backing of and reporting by REVS magazine. The Imprezas won 4 out of 5 of the events.

Do a searh on either BBS and you'll find all the write ups or ask Mike Rainbird, he was one of the organisers

Mellow had a fairly beefed up P1 then an RA sti v limited that seemed awesome..

He also now runs a saphire cosworth on track which I have had the pleasure to ride in and it is outstanding, it catches then passes all the subaru's, evo's other cosworths and porsche gt2'3, 3's etc... so surely he who has tracked both cars is possibly a good judge of them both ?
