Ford Puma 1.7
Seriously considering getting a 1.7 Puma for a second car. I've test driven one and I'm reasonably impressed but I'd be interested to know what peoples views are on them. I'd be looking at a T to W plate?
Are they any good. Checked out a couple of websites that seem mostly complimentary....oh and before the comparisons with other makes starts it really has to be a Ford due to my wifes lack of NCB on her insurance. Ford do a very competitive price insurance wise.
Thanks in advance

I used to have one before the scoob, I can recommend them
I would still have my old one as a run about if I could afford it, I was sorry to see it go
But the scoob won me over
check out on search for Puma threads, there is a wealth of info to be snatched at, though IA m sure many more people will give new opinions and views
cheers,
Michelle.

Top car, my missus still has my old one
Very chuckable and fun at more sensible speeds. Only downer is room in the back (fine for short journeys or little uns), but other than that, not had a problem with ours.
IMHO has one of the best feeling gear changes as well.
You could do a hell of a lot worse
I'd go back to one as a cheaper option.

I like em! I think they're really good to drive, really chuckable as mentioned
Downsides would be bashing your head on the A post every time you get in or out and lack of rear visibility
Check the bottom of the front wings and leading edges of the doors for rust also, some had recalls, basically a spot weld had been missed in the tailgate shut near where the strut thing bolts on, nothing mega but maybe worth a look in that area.
Best of luck!

Hiya
Ive had a 1.7 puma and a puma millenium, they were both fun to drive, and only got rid of millenium cus i drove a subaru.
They are great on the road, for handling and fuel consumption and if I was gonna get a second car it would definately be a puma
hope this helps

Yep, great car.I bought a puma racing a couple of months back and i love it,great handling (maybe a bit stiff for everyday driving)great fuel econ.and still fairly nippy, great brakes and no probs so far.Make sure car has ffsh and do a compression check,it should read between 180 and 200.A few suffered from nikasil wear in the chamber and the compression test is a good sign if somethings wrong. Get a good one and you will love it.
Had 1.7 when they first can out for 9 months (company car). Great machine, amazing steering, great sound system - loved it.
My wife also loved it and we were very very close to getting another for a second car last year but my wife was taken by the 206 CC
I'd get another Puma any day though.
Richard.

Thanks for all the replies...now all I've got to do is find a good enough example....at the best price.
I've heard they're supposed to have dropped recently in price but don't see much evidence of this on autotrader.

The only way I can see you think that is that the Puma is based on the Fiesta which shares a platform with the Mazda 121?
Yamaha tuned the engine, but wasn't aware of Mazda's input.
Can you point me to some stuff on that?
Cheers,
