Lancia Delta HF Integrale 16V

Hi all
A friend of mine is interested in one of these and has around £4000 to spend. Anyone have any experience of these cars and any ideas on what to look out for when buying?
He is thinking about buying one from England as there seems to be plenty of examples on www.autotrader.co.uk

£ 4000 would by a low end 16v or a mid end 8v.
The big problems with these is that cheap ones have usually been thrashed AND / OR have had inadequate maintenence spent on them in the past.
Does your friend have enough money set aside each month to pay for running costs?

You might struggle to get a decent 16V for 4K. Usually for that price you need to spend money on neglected maintenance/repairs.
The most important thing is to only buy one with full history and preferably unmodified. You could try speaking to one of the specialists in uk eg. John Whalley's -01279 654181, Walkers Garages 01609 777221, Evolution Engineering 020 7703 2225.

Many Integrales will have rust bubbles at the bottom of the front screen and the top of the tailgate - to correct properly can be expensive.
All were LHD although some RHD conversions were done - these generally have a slower speed steering rack, more rattles and more likelihood of electrical problems. IF your friend can cope with LHD, then the car will drive closer to how Lancia intended it to do.
Many cars have been driven to within an inch of their lives - and usually shows.
A car that is as standard as possible will (most probably) have had the most gentle life.
Check for service history.
Check receipts, bills etc.,
find out when the cam belt was last done.
find out why the chap is selling?
find out by fair means or otherwise how the previous owner drove - does he let the turbo cool before cutting off its oil supply?
and all the usual things...
