Pajero/Shogun 3dr 3.5L GDI
#1
Does anyone run one, or know someone who does?
Drives nice on the road for such a large, tall vehicle. Off road ability should be acceptable to decent, looking at the spec (4hi and 4lo lock) and hearing some opinions on it. Should be more than enough for light trailing.
Thoughts? Known problems?
Cheers.

The import pajero's are set for 101 octane and don't our like petrol at all (Direct injection petrol engines are much more sensitive than indirect engine's), don't buy a pajero petrol. the diesel is stonking and not a lot slower than the petrol (1.5 secs to 60) or find a late 3.5 mivec evolution shogun manual 0-60 in 6 secs.

Tks - I didn't know that the GDIs were so sensitive to octane! Yikes. My Dad-In-Law has a '99 Mit Diamante that has a 3L GDI engine. 3 yrs and 50000km no problems as yet. Also, the Galant 1.8L is imported here with a GDI.
We only get 98RON here tops, but seeing that so many mainstream cars are running around with GDI engines, I hope thats not an issue.
Cheers.

Gdi engines for the uk are different to jap imports,
1800 gdi in japan is 150bhp in UK only 120 bhp, car is strangled to pass emmisions test due our dirty fuel,
Ricardo engineering (testers for the motor industry) blew up sevral Jap gdi engine's in severe tests on uk fuel, they had to ship jap 101 octane to the UK to do proper tests on the engines.

I have just sold one of these very machines, found it very good, not bad on fuel, nice to drive, good for towing.
Couldnt understand a word of the GPS, which was all in japanese!! only problem, there`s no room in the back to carry much, this is where a Trooper is much better.
all in all though damn fine car.

Interesting about the fuel! This is prob why I keep seeing different torque figures quoted for supposedly the same 3.5L engine. The one in Singapore quotes 318Nm, I've seen a Jap website quote 343Nm, and I believe the last figure I saw (prob UK?) quoted 303Nm.
