If you are buying an Evo 5 make sure that the AYC Ecu has been checked and replaced if appropriate. Some of the early ones had faulty Ecu's which could cause the rear axel to lock. Boooomm. Not the cleverest piece of design, as the system works by having an arrangement which has one clutch on the left rear and one on the right rear diff. The Ecu could send a signal which would lock both at the same time. Hmmmm. Also make sure the AYC oil has been regularly changed. There are three different oils at the back of Evo 5's. A search on the Lancer Register for AYC will give you lots of info.
Mitsubishi were not very forthcoming with the recalls in the UK as they were all imported cars. I had one and had to chase them for months trying to find out what was going on.
Good luck. Great car and lots of fun. Expensive to run though.
I had insurance through Admiral who I always found to be the cheapest when renewing.
Good Luck

I'll second the Admiral suggestion! I've just ordered an Evo 6 RS2 from Ian Litchfield and the insurance is only going to cost about £90 more than my Integra Type R!!!! Admiral are alway's spot on with the paperwork.Because I had full no claim's with them they gave me the same discount on my second car, result

Evo's corner much better!
Please dont be put off by this, the 4700 mile service is AYC only. This is something anyone who has basic knowledge of cars can do in 30 mins, it only involves changing the fluid. If you dont fancy it a specialist can do it for about £50.
The main service intervals are about the same as a scooby.
Chris (mellow) also has the black Evo 5 up for 12ish K atm so be quick as this really is a bargin...
