Andy Nicholl's Maestro Turbo makes 418bhp today

I had the misfortune of being stood near the exhaust when it came on boost(about 30psi)and it nearly deafened me.It was only running around 340bhp at 10 of the best so god knows what times it will run now.

So what you are saying is that a Maestro will (when tuned) make more horsepower than any Scoob,
Now that is cool, never underestimate Maestros, I was in a Golf GTI on Anglesey with a Maestro van (ex gpo I think) stuck up my chuff, I waited to get past some slower cars and overtook and thought "Live with that shed", it did and as I pulled in (at 80 still accelerating) it breezed past me.....

Yep it's me Skiddus, didn't realise that was you, even after seeing your pic from the last rolling road day!!!!
Yeah, i'm pleased with the new car, plenty more to come on the power front though, but need a clutch first...
The Maestro in question uses a Rover T16 engine, not the original 8V Maestro lump (although I've seen those at 300+BHP). 418BHP is way more than I've ever seen extracted from the Rover lump, second highest Rover on the day was 300BHP. I guess it proves that with enough knowledge and effort, you can get big power from pretty well any engine. No idea what Andy has done to his, but 418BHP :O

Yeah that photo in Redline didn't exactly catch me looking my bestI'm far better looking in the flesh I'm sure you'll agree. The other powerful Rover had Andy's old engine in it.As regards to what he's done to the maestro...everything.

Partly because he can, partly because noone else has done it and partly because he has a small tuning business and what better advert for it?
When Chris Mann first told me of the car a couple of years ago,I thought"why bother?"but then I met Andy and saw the car.Even if it is "only" a maestro it still looks and goes well for what it is.
How many of us can say we have one of(if not the most)powerful and quickest cars of its type(FWD)in the country?

Delighted to see there are many open minded enthusiasts over here on scoobynet unlike some sites I could mention .....
That Rover T16 lump, along with many other fine Brit products, has always been vastly underestimated particularly by Brits. It's a favourite engine transplant with the MG Montego/Maestro enthusiasts so should such a "shed" leave your favourite Scooby for dead, dont throw a tantram ... it's probably a mildly tweaked T16 Turbo transplant.
I wonder why BMW discontinued it ....

Not sure about the turbo, but the N/A 2.0 16v engine blows head gaskets at a terrible rate, and are generally crap.
Have to say though, while I do think/know Maestros are crap. Andy's car is pretty damn fast, and that power figure is bloody impressive.
People ask why??? Well, Id ask too, especially about the choice of car, but he has 418 reasons why...

....Hmmmm .... you KNOW that do you?
What's "sweeping generalisation" mean Dad?
Dunno son - ask stevieturbo.
For those scoobynetters of a like mind, suggest you reserve judgement until you at least try a well sorted MG Montego or Maestro. You may just have a change of mind .....

LOL - that brings back memories of my 2.0 Litre MG Maestro, I bought it way back when XR3i's and RS1600s where all the rage. I really enjoyed pissing them all off - and pointing out the fact that it had 4 doors and still beat them up.
