Question

The Civic Type R is being sold today, relieving some cash for other projects.

I will still need transport however and i'm beginning to look at getting a VR6 Corrado, probably a Storm as i've always fancied one and they are now sub £10k.

Any opinions?

Modern is the word!!!... ive got a corrado G60 and had it for year and half and im bored of it, the Vr6 is more powerful but its really old hat as they came out k reg, The Lunar lander was more advanced than Corrados i think!!! Im being a bit harsh but Japanese is the way to go!!!!! Still Vr6's can delliver the goods but as youre comming from a type R i think u will b disapionted.

P.S i think i had more fun in my Astra GSI although the corrado handles a whole lot better!!!!

mozzaITA,

I disagree.

The VR6 2.9l unit found in the Corrado is one of the best in the industry to date. That is not only my opinion but that of several mechanical engineers and respected motor journo's. I would agree that styling can date very quickly but also a few models (205 GTi) really do stand the test of time.

I have test driven a VR6 today and can honestly say it is more rewarding than my CTR when driven at the normal 7/10th pace. It has bags more torque and character (exhaust note is special), plus the interior is as good as many so called executive vehicles today.

Didn't buy this one as it was in the wrong colour but I will be buying one soon.

Any more views?

I had 2 Corrado VR6s before an Escort Cosworth then a Scooby WRX STI4.
There is nothing at all wrong with the VR6, great engine, not as quick as the Escort, and certainly not the Scooby, but a lovely sounding motor.
Handles well as well for a front driver.
I used to love mine.
Put it this way, it's the only car I've ever had 2 of!!

Had a VR6 for three years, great FWD handling car, lovely engine. U really can't compare this to the supercharged G60 it's miles better. Theres a garage that specializes in them just off the M25 in surrey. Can't remember the name but they always used to advertise in Top Marques.

Cool

James,

Think you are refering to "Autotek" in Guildford. They have a couple in at the moment.

Great car, reagarded by those in the know as the best in its class (a few years back) Starting to look a bit dated but a very capable and bulletproof car.

Yes!.

Cullenj, miles better than a std G60 probably, mines been chipped etc and has got 180 bhp and 200 lbs of torque so 'miles' better isnt realistic but better yeah, Still cant wait to shift the bloody thing for my dream Jap car the Lancer Evo 4/5/6!!!!

Chelmsford hey, r u a dukes goer? we r there all the time!!!

I had one for just over a year, and then sold it, 'cos I had to have it recovered on a trailer three times I think I was just unlucky. They have a weakness for radiators and headgaskets both went on mine - checkout www.honestjohn.co.uk for more details

Great engine, loadsa torque. Quite practical 4 seats (just) and a decent boot. It's at its best on open roads/motorways, a bit heavy around town.

I had the pleasure of driving it in snow, and I can tell you it was one of the most scary experiences I've ever had in a car at 30 mph.
