Two cool porsches spotted
#1
I have seen two lovely porsches near me recently but did not know what they were, any ideas?
1. 911 RS - full roll cage, lowered no rear seats, harnesses etc - is this standard? and what is it? It is a really nice purple with black wheels. It has a private plate but I am guessing it is about a 1993-4 with a narrow body and an automatic rear spoiler. - It is one of the coolest cars I have seen for a long time.
2. The other looks more 1980's but it says RUF instead of carrera etc. Are RUF like AMG etc. or somthing different??
Never been a huge fan of Porsche untill I saw that purple beast!!
Cheers all
Andy

Also RUF are classed as a manufacturer in their own right - own one and it will show on it's registration as a RUF - not a Porsche. They are kind of like AMG etc but take it several steps further and would probably be upset to be compared to the above.

Of course you can also just buy the badge and maybe the wheels from RUF...
The other sounds like a 964 RS. Didn't necessarily have the cage from the factory, but otherwise probably right. They were lightweight and maybe had a little more power (I lost interest a bit with the 964 model) and are desirable but a bit too stiffly sprung for the road.

964RS yummmmm! You could also get the 964RS in touring spec with added luxuries from the Carrera 2/4, or a 964 RSR which had a fully stripped interior with factory rollcage - which is probably what you saw.
Great track day cars that come in some eyecatching colours - Purple, Rubystone (Pink!), Lemon yellow and Mint Green!!! Nice!

Carrera Club Sport was around '86. Basically the same car as the 3.2 carrera of the same age but with wind up windows and no back seats etc. and the rev limiter raised 500 rpm.
Even earlier the first Carreras sometimes had script down the side, but unless it was an original 2.7 RS (with the 'ducktail' spoiler) then they are just mainstream cars of their day.
