I think it is very nice, I've not driven it at length but he prefers his Elise so is selling it.

...Just a rumour at this stage.

The 2.7 Boxster is very sweet handling car with 'adequate' performance.

Probably the most active message board is here www.986board.com but there are some others.

It is very much USA based but there are some regular posters from this side of the Atlantic.

The average owner is probably a bit older than the average on here and it is amazing to see how many of these cars get stripped down and thrased on track days, or DE's as they call them.

There are far more stories of entire engines being replaced under warranty than I have heard about on here but on the whole Porsche appear to be quick to replace them, even out of warranty in many cases, as a goodwill gesture. The don't allow dealer to rebuild engines preferring them to be sent home for analysis and 're-manufacture'.

The 2.7 has more torque than the 2.5 and the interior trim generally gets better each year so go for the latest one that you can afford! Alledgedly cheaper in winter you may need to go private to get a reasonable price as UK dealer prices seem way to high (as always). Some dealers are back to quoting a 10 month wait on a 2003 model so residuals 'should' stay firm for a while yet but I have heard stories of people being offered poor trade in values.

Excellent cars but servicing costs sky high if you go to Porker dealers. My sister had one (2.5). I rated it as a driving machine but for the extra money I didnt reckon it was any better on the road than my then MY00. Still one of the best cars I've driven and preferred it to the ZM Coupe and Roadsters I've tried.

I have a myoo,Dad has a boxster
The service costs are not that different(the sub needs service every 7500,the box every 12000)
The box is better on juice when we go out together,

a-road handling is better in box
b-road is better in sub

ps if i could afford the boxster i'd have one tomorrow

Best car I've ever owned, not that fast at all, but quick enough for 99.99999% of the time. Bomb proof reliablilty and residuals, classy and subtle. Much too quiet as standard though, I got a Hayward and scott Decat exhaust and manifolds and induction kit and it sounds utterly fantastic. Such a good all round car... read any magazine and it will tell you how good they are, don't listen to the hairdresser crap! better still, wanna test drive mine? 2 of my friends did and they bought them. One sold his Tuscan coz it was complete pants and soooo badly built... ALOT faster though... shame it never worked!

I agree with your comments totally - I've made the same change. Not as fast, but a well put together package which certainly gives a real feel good factor . How much did you pay for the H&S exhaust?

Markcp, it was expensive but well well worth it, seriously sexy and hardcore growl but quiet yet still deep and bassy when you are not really in the mood. The evo induction kit is only £200 odd I think and sounds superb. Decent gains in performance as well from all these mods... another thing to consider is a quickshift, totally changes feel of the car, superb peice of kit. I have my friends standard one whilst he is on holiday and mine feels sooo much better and more solid than his. B&M make them, let me know if you want one.

My Insurance for my other cars are with the RAC and they look after me I run Double bonus on both cars.
With the Boxter they will also look after me under £600.
But they do not insure Boxster 'S' So i would have to go to some other broker. There prices are over £1500 and i cant bring myself to pay that amount for a car that will only come out on a sunny day and do about 3k a year.

I know that sounds really silly when im paying around £27k for a car but thats just me !

I drove the 2.7 and the S at Thruxton last year (courtesy of Porsche themselves).
IMHO the 2.7 hasn't got enough power for the chassis; much like the R5GT Turbo was. The S is far better, but don't drive a 996 or you'll always be disappointed in the Boxster.

Real Porsches are air-cooled anyhow (says me with my 944 Turbo).

Most cars feel very underpowered on Racetracks though RB5, as I said Boxster is fast enough for 99.99999% of the time, also its widely recognised that the Boxster is a better handling car than the 996. I've got a 996 Carrera 4 on my drive at mom as well as a Boxster and overall the Boxster is 90% as good as the 911 for 50% of the price... of course if I could afford one though I'd rather have a 996 GT2, although my friend has one and doesn't rate it as a road car.... but what a weapon.

I've recently changed my Boxster S order to a 996. I test drove both back in July, ordered the Boxster, but the memory of the 996 just kept gnawing away at me.

I'd buy a 993 turbo personally.

The fact that the 996 has the slightly less capable chassis is what makes it better. The Boxster didn't feel especially slow at Thruxton, it didn't have the power to work or even adjust the chassis properly; you can't get it sideways with a gob of right boot basically.

Boxster owners: what happens when you put the top down?

I ran a Boxster S for 12 months and was told by the supplying dealer that it was necessary to get out of the car and manually fold the plastic back window neatly to avoid all the nasty crinkles and creases that otherwise appear if you leave it to its own devices - which rather defeats the point of having an electric roof!! (Just a minor point, and I know it's now been sorted on the current models with glass rear screens). Still - not very Porsche-like!

Otherwise it was an excellent car and felt absolutely bombproof engine and gearbox-wise but was not without a few minor faults.

It didn't 'feel' as fast as my Scooby because there wasn't that sudden turbo rush as the revs rose - just smooth linear power all the way to the red line which made it deceptively fast.

Still prefer my current STi Uk though.
