Question

Hiya,

Well - since getting rid of my RB5 I've been having a bit of a look around for a replacement of some description.

Various thoughts have gone through my mind, everything from a top-notch Mini (a 'proper' one, not a BMW), a BMW 325i (old and new shape), 5 series BMW's, 7 series and XJ6 Jags.

But... then this caught my eye...

Now - being a child of the 80's I must say that a 3-door cosworth is, for me, an item of desire - always has been and always will be.

But... I don't really know anything about them so, does anyone have any buying tips, recommendations etc? And - I know, it's not a scoob, but what do you think of the car? - I am soooooo tempted to get it

ta,
Matt.

Wow that's a nice looking engine
All I can offer in way of advice is to check all panels to make they are date-stamped 1986 or 1987 and check inner wings for any signs of cracking. You will enjoy the fun of a rwd if you decide to have it - big grin factor

As much as I always say I hate Fords, I do have a soft spot for an original cossie. Cool cars, but not something you could drive everyday, mainly because of scum. where could you ever park the thing safely???
If you do decide to buy it, try and get the original wheels. Why do people by those cheap BK racing things???

Not much point in getting orig. 15" wheels because from what I can see from the pics - big brakes are fitted. They won't fit behind standard wheels. Must admit the wheels in the top picture look better.
You got any spec on this car Matt?

It looks fantastic.
Takes me back to about 87 and drooling over the BTCC when Andy Rouse used to prepare and drive one of these.

Without a shadow of a doubt, the most important thing to check is the underside of the car.

Most cossie owners spend loads on making the engine bay look shiny etc etc, but forget they are prone to rust....

Points to look for are all based around the rear end, since the engine kicks out enough oil to keep the front rust free!

The rear chassis rails were all made double skin, but you can get residual water in the rails, since they remain open at the back end. Check around the rear beam mounts, spring mounts, and the rails in general. Also check the sills inside the side skirt... if it's mint and untouched, you could be onto a winner!
