My missus inherited an RS2000 when her husband died a few years ago, last time I spoke to the guy who now owns it he was thinking of selling, I'll drop him a line tomorrow and let you know. From what I recall it was tatty but honest, possibly ideal for your project.
Still corner well a good MkII

a cossie lump in it. Does anyone know how much a tidy complete car goes for these days?
Also, If I cant find a complete car I was thinking about buying a tidy RS2000 for 2k and getting the conversion done. does anyone know the number for DJ motorsport in kent? cos I remember they were the Cosworth conversion gods a few years back but I've lost their number.
Cheers in advance,
astraboy.

I was looking at my mate's classic ford magazine lastnight, they had an article about that type of conversion, I'll get him to have a look, see if there are any phone numbers for help/info

The best one of these I've ever seen was built by Paul Bailey Motorsport, it featured a full race RS500 motor in an X-Packed shell, with variable boost levels, dependent on which gear it was in. I don't know whether he's still doing that sort of thing though, the last I heard he was doing FWD RS Turbos & Jap stuff.
If you start with an RS2000 though, a basic transplant should be fairly straight forward, after all, all a Cossie is is a 1960's into boat anchor, with a posh head and a big fan

Hi Astraboy,
Been mulling over doing something myself for a while now.You are probably better off starting with a base escort rather than a RS2K because at the end of the day most of its going to go anyway.Take a look on the Turbosport BBS at CossieClints car which is being restored by Mark(2quick4u) now thats the proper way to do it .
If you start with a 2K and then have to do that amount of restoration work before even thinking about engines/gbox etc it will be a seriously expensive car.Or if money isn't an object I think Gartrac are selling a fully prepped MK2 shell in this weeks Motoring News for a cool £4500.
I did have a chat with a guy on here (Dave IIRC) who had a red MK2 and he said to budget on spending 10k for a serious track tool and probably 5/6000 for a fast road car.Now I dont know if that is doing the work yourself or paying someone else to do it probably the latter so I would think long and hard.
Myself I think its going to be a MK2 Mexico and restore that and just enjoy it.I owned a RS2K which I restored a few years ago(12 years to be precise)and that was a brilliant fun car.Plus theres loads you can still do to a pinto engine to make it quick.
I'll try and find some pictures of my old Escort and post them into this thread

Well, 5-6 k is a little expensive for me. Heres how I planned it out.
Buy an straight RS2000 for around 2k,
Bung the cossie lump in but mate it up to a 5speed sierra box, I.E. no T5. That way I wont have to mess about with a custom tunnel because providing I leave the Cosworth engine untuned as the 5 speed sierra will (just about) cope with 204 bhp.
I know its practically illegal not to tune the Cossie engine, but I think 204 bhp will be more than ample in a MkII Escort.
After the engine then the brakes and suspension will follow, then the interior (Cage, FIA seats, harness) Then finally the sound system (Light yet loud).
For the car and the engine I'm thinking of a final budget of about 4k. With the rest being added as and when I can afford to.
Feasable? Or am I talking out of my ****?

Sierra gearbox should cope due to the light weight of the car. Thing is, can you REALLY bring yourself to not modify it?
Anyway, are there any non-uprated Cosworth engines about?

I plan to use it as an everyday driver (I'll get somthing crap to run around during winter though) and the occasional track day car. Thing is I never use the cars I have got (I do less than 3000 miles a year in the Sierra and about 3000 in the astra) so it'll be used on weekends only.
As to the prob about not modifying it at all yeah I know it will be tempting but I've heard stories about MkIIs getting twitchy when uprated and as well as the gearbox probs, mean i will have to keep it standard. Besides, 200bhp in a mkII? more than enough for me.
I plan to sell the 3-door (offers around 8k) and get what i can for the astra so i'll be back to one car again.
Having a bit of a clear out so I can have room to keep a mkII.

AB, with the amount of torque you are going to be shoving through it, I would recommend that you tie the back axle to the car a bit better, if not four linking, at least an X-frame similar to that sold by the capri club.
BTWWho fancies a sweep on how long the motor would stay at 204bhp

Okay, I'm prepared to admit that I'll put a dump valve and K&N Cone on it, happy?
Apart from that I'll have to limit it cos of the strains on the gearbox. I dont want to have to be changing boxes all the time so I'll have to restrain myself. wont I?

Buy an old MKII automatic car....
Not being funny, some old dear's well looked after, low mileage, 2 door 1.3 automatic will fit the bill perfectly - they ARE out there but take a bit of finding....
Mine began life as one of these, 40000 mile 1 owner red car, scrapped because it was too old for her (?). Shell was absolutely mint, never been welded or had and new panels, basically binned all the lovely beige interior, threw away practically everything running gear related apart from the shell
The T5 box will fit into the automatic shell fine with no bashing, cutting etc.
Ok, so it's not an RS but you are not chopping up a 2 grand car to start with, more like a few hundred quid if you are lucky (mine cost me £70 from a scrap yard). Bear in mind, you will be ditching most of the standard suspension etc anyway so no point in paying over the odds for a MKII RS2000 really
Hope this helps

Did anyone see the orange cossie powered one in one of the ford mags a few moths ago it was awesome to say the least.
I would love one of these motor's.

I'd rather go for a high output naturally aspirated engine - the only reason you'd stick the Cossie lump in would be for the torque and the possibility of additional power for very little additional cash.
But then you've got to consider considerable additional bracing to avoid stressing the bodyshell.
Personally (and yes, I'm a wuss) I wouldn't consider driving an unbraced one of these, cos I had a mighty 1.1 2-door as my first 4-wheel car (let's not talk about the Reliant Regal.....) and managed to crunch it.
I was horrified at how close I came to being a fatality from a relatively low-speed crash - remember that this is basically a 60's spec car (safety? crumple zones? what????) and uprate accordingly. My minimum requirements would be a good rollcage, braced bodyshell, and 4/5-point harnesses.
Good luck with it

I have been thinking of doing the same myself, but in a Mk1 as I used to own both and personally I prefer it.
You will probably find that most RSs up for sale have already had numerous mods to brakes, suspension etc.
Someone earlier mentioned the red X-Pack that Paul Bailey used to have. That car was incredible. I remember it passing me on a RSOC track day at Donnington. At the time I thought my modded yellow X-Pack was the business but I might as well have been standing still. I wonder if the car is still around?

Yup, the cars still around...caused a stir at this year's National Day according to all reports
Sombody posted a video clip of it on the RS BBS, I'll see if I can find it.

I remember it when he was doing the Vecta Challenge, it was taking the p155 big time out of evo spec RS200's, ex BSCC RS500's and anything else that dared to take it on in those days. There was the added advantage of nobody passing on the outside either, cos the only way round the corners was Very sideways
