Blitzed by a "Ford Escort RS Turbo S2 (1989)"
#1
Got Blitzed by one of these last night.
He must of had it chipped or £2 - £3K worth of tuning under the bonnet.
I've been informed that one of these can be tuned upto 180bhp quite easily and this would keep up with a standard UK Impreza with no problems.
I have a UK MY97 Turbo and even in standard form I can say that not many cars have kept up with me.
Cheers

I had one of these overtake me (e reg one) about 6 or so months back, he must have been doing 80mph, i was doing 30mph (due to the fact that it was a 30mph zone ) he'd seen me turn when the lights were on red for him and no doubt thought he would give it some, well it nearly wiped him out and the car that was pulling out of the junction as he only just managed to swerve round him (and me ) but i dont think this one was tuned, just an ar5ehole in a shed

As with any situation like this, it all depends how much he was giving it, and how much you were. If you were giving it 75%, and he was giving 100%, he will get ahead. Also if his motor is running in "grenade" tune ... which most of them seem to be

oh dear, im getting a rs turbo instead of an impreza!!!! LOL, much cheaper!!
never raced one, but raced a Ren 5 turbo once, i had a astra Gsi at the time, he started pulling from me!!

At the end of the day mines a standard UK Model and has a lot of tuning potential.
As I said before he's probably got it tuned up to the hilt with the arches full of rust
Fast Fords are great because they = Cheap fun and Performance.
On the other hand Subaru's are dropping in price drasticaly although the servicing costs are mega high compared to similar motors.
Cheers

Its not surprising you were blitzed, to get 200bhp and lots of torque out of the 1600 isn't difficult or particularly expensive, they're only 980KG and don't have the 4WD transmission loss you will have but traction and torque steer is a big problem with the Escorts
PS
All the RS's are made in Germany and don't suffer the same kind of rust problems the normal models will

had a escort rs 1600i with a tuned turbo engine in and it went like a rocket,it pulled 184bhp at the wheels on the rolling road but there is no way i could have drove it as fast as i can the scooby
the handling and torque steer was a nightmare with all the power at the front!
1st and 2nd was a waste of time!
cheap performance though
left the rest of the car looking standard! i gave a few cars a nasty shock in that (allways vtr and vts saxo's wanting to race it)
great fun!

I didn't buy it!
I went for a Tom Tit and someone had left it in the sh1tter. It had loads of nasty RS Turbos in it, some of which had nitrous!!
One had 310bhp but still looked sh1te

Ah Jonny Gav but the supercharged VTS's usually have 200+ at the wheels Bye, bye RS
Why the obsession with straight line speed on here???

A friend of mine has a S2 Escort RST running about 170-190ish BHP - It was rolling roaded at 170 and has since had more work done. It is quick! He runs 1/4 miles at the pod in the low 14's but struggles for grip of the line. Once its rolling it really shifts though.......
Quite a nice car, other than the engine he just has decent suspension and brakes(standard wheels still!) so it looks pretty standard, he's embarrased many a 'faster' car.

About £3.5-4k with proper fitting I believe. I'm told the supercharged VTS are quick as heck in a straight line and as soon as my car is finished I'm going to take on a white supercharged VTS at Crail (arranged it through saxo-sports-club). It'll be interesting to see if he can reel in my launch in time. Unfortunatly I expect he will
For the money I spent to upgrade to the scooby and modify it I could have made my VTS faster in a straight line and faster through the bends. However, with so much of a sniff of dampness it would be lethal in my opinion and also I'm not convinced running 250bhp through a 1.6 designed for 120-130 is such a good idea for reliability

Not getting your point mr Pon?
I'll have him 0-60mph no problem due to 4wd but the 1/4 mile will usually be completed in the region of 100mph in my car which gives him a fairly long time to reel in my advantage. My scooby probably won't have 200bhp at the wheels and even if it did it's heavier. Believe me I'll try my *** off but I think in the right hands his car would be more capable over the 1/4 mile.

Saxo boy,
From what I remember, your car is decat and a few other mods isn't it? The sort of power you're running should get you low 13s - if his car does that, I'll be very surprised.....
If it does, I'll eat my hat

Was merely passing comment on what I'd read cos I was bored at the time.
Never even owned a ford and certainly have no interest in any of Ford's old tin pots!

prehaps the fast ford mag had been left there for you wipe your **** on after your tom tit
anyway thats all its fit for......
as for the RST's.....FYI and a reference to how quick these can be...with in 0.9 of a mile he was off the clock at 150mph from a standing start...that was with 180bhp at the wheels...his previous car had 270bhp at the wheels but wasnt 1600 and dont have any other figures to be able to quote
alot are running in grenade tune due to the idiot owners fitting a bleed valve and winding it open as far as it will go
might as well pull the pipe off the actuator...would have been cheaper

well, there are some fast rst's about and some bad tuned too.
ford isn't the BIG marque for the moment (even far away)
but about FWD cars, may I state the FWD focus RS that would easily beat a UK scoob ?
I'm not trying to stirr up things,
but when a company buys AP components, or anything reallly,
and rises the prises come fouls, everything becomes possible.
To be honest, if I would be looking at a new car right now, it should be a Mitsu Evo 7

redkop-mags like fast ford and jap performance should come with a disclaimer.
something like- all performance figures, quarter mile times and bhp figures in this publication are the figment of the owners imagination and are not in any way realistic.
