Blitzed by a "Ford Escort RS Turbo S2 (1989)"

I managed to keep up with a P1 from a rolling start (from about 30mph) and was on his rear bumper all the way up my runway *cough* dual carrige way, i saw him laughing before he set off as if to say "tin pot old ford with a loud exhaust, i shall dust him just to show him" he was right about the tin pot old ford bit, lol, but wrong about dusting me, oh and said incident happened while i was running 1 bar boost when its normally 1.2 bar...

Matt, it's a shame your 1st post has to be bollox. I don't own a scooby but smell bullsh1t from your post.
I own a 260bhp ish MR2 turbo and have been beaten (close though) by a P1.
Your RSt (little t) wouldn't be in the races through any power band.

aern't MR2 for girls ? A P1 is hardly rapid is it not when you 440bhp under the bonnet anyway.
I have seen some RST's pull 12 secs to a 100 which is quick as a P1, so girl's car driver your car must be really slow!!!!!
For the first time I agree with saxoboy some of those little saxo's absolutely fly and in a good state of tune would be a match for most scoob's

Well I've got a ***** and own a MR2 T, so no, they aren't for girls.
On the other hand, you are a ***** and insist on boring us all with your ford/rust talk.
The years is now 2002, not 1988 - it's time to move on.

redkop-mags like fast ford and jap performance should come with a disclaimer.
something like- all performance figures, quarter mile times and bhp figures in this publication are the figment of the owners imagination and are not in any way realistic

or even a statement saying - Please Note: We have to inflate performance figures to make the article more sensational and in no way do they reflect actual figures.
This is so deluded muppets will still buy our mag
fatherpierre - I know you know jack **** about cossies - but I must point out to you, not all cossies were built in 1988 - last ones were built in 1996 and as pointed out before, the ones built in Germany - do not rust A little knowledge is dangerous

I'm told the s/c VTS's will do the 1/4 mile in 12.5-13 seconds in the right hands (i.e. skills in 1st and 2nd) and I would have thought a UK scooby would need in the region of 330bhp to do a 1/4 mile in 12.5. Bearing in mind I'll have about 275-80 I'm falling a little short!!

There's a guy in the 200+ club with a supercharged Saxo, I think he now has it up to 200+ BHP at the wheels. Seems to eat gearboxes though, I guess that happens when you put double the designed power through.
On slicks, It probably would do 12s on a quarter mile, power to weight ratio must be mental. On road tyres, he is struggling to get low 13s I think from memory. Fastest FWD I have seen is a Maestro using a T16 engine, he's now run a 12.29 1/4, but he uses some very specialised rubber to get the power down, nit slicks but not far off.
Fair play to people who build cars like this, I've done it myself in the past. But I can't help thinking nowadays that buying a better base car and improving on that will give you a better all round car in the long run. It will be much easier to live with and has to be more reliable in a lower state of tune. Horses for courses and all that. And the final costs end up the same anyway, since if you're prepared to spend say £10K modding a £5K car, why not spend £5K modding a £10K car? I know which one will be worth most when the time comes to sell...

Ive a mate who had a fiesta RS turbo with 165bhp, his brother has an impreza (208bhp) which he has now modified
My mate kept up with his brothers scoob in the dry on some twisties (but his bro hadnt had his scoob for long so was still getting use to it) but what counted is when they got back, mates brother got out of his scoob, turned off and went inside, mates car was overheating etc (and this had been professionally built!) as it needed to work its ***** off to keep up with the scoob! (oh and it also ate gearboxes due to the ammount of torque....)
So basically all these "high powered rst's" that you see, maybe one in 200 has been built properly, gearbox etc where as the rest are all bumped up power on a chip, loads of psi and one engine that will go bang!

I must admit to owning 2 S2 RST's, the first one i spent over 5 grand on the engine including pistons, head, cam, intercooler uprated turbo etc etc, even fitted a rear anti roll bar and some cossie wheels putting out 250 BHP at 18PSI reliably (built by Gordon Leeming in Newcastle). Torque steer was a nightmare but it was miles faster than my scooby feels, got rid of it when the chasis started to crack under the strain.....still the most fun i've had with my pants on!

Co55ie,
No I probably wouldn't mod an RS500, lots of people have though. A nice, original RS500 would be a great car to own, I wouldn't buy one though, as I'd want to use it all the time instead of keeping it for the odd blast.
Yes I do drive a Mazda 323. Feel free to voice your opionions, I know your not shy with them .

I know all I want to know about Cossies. I know I would never even consider buying one.
They're ugly, dowdy and stuck firmly in the 1980s. They may well have been produced until 1996 but it doesn't detract from their tardy image.
Besides, I was referring to Sierras.
And WTF does being produced in Germany have to do with them not rusting? Are the Germans the only people who can make a car that doesn't rust?
