I used to live near an HF Integrale LHD That's what turned me onto them, look fantastic, and very discreet given the performance

Ima? 800bhp?! That is Mad!

Modern day rally cars could produce around 600 BHP if they were not resticted.

It wasn't the Intergrale that would of qualified for the Grand Prix but the Group B Delta S4 driven by Henri Toivenen.

I'll get me anorak........

p.s. Stratos - what a car! If my numbers ever come up that is the first car I'm going out to buy. For sound it is up their with Andy Burtons Pug 306 and the 6R4.

I ve owned an evo 1 and then a 2.

The 1 s are quicker and more tuneable due to bigger turbo no cats less weight etc. Interior (seats) on the 2 s are much nicer though.

fabulous road presence, beats even a 22B in that dept.

Shell is as stiff as a shoe box minus the lid, old 70's shopping trolley design, and they crack at the stress points if you re not careful.

Sold my evo 2 last Xmas due to eyewatering running costs and the aforementioned shell fractures appearing.

Ian Fraser ex-publisher of Car, now columnist for evo had a Stratos, maybe still has.

I remember reading about it when I was still in shorts, and it left a great impression on me. I've always wanted one, but have never seen one. Guess they quite valuable now.

Sorry to highjack guys, but Paul would you mind e - mailing me a copy of the results that you posted up ! A certain Andy Barnes and Rupert Jarron would be interested in those as they have now progressed into Sub 3.5sec times.

Cheers Mate, address in Profile.

Exclamation

I got within a ***-paper's width of buying an Integrale, but never quite managed it, even after several trips to John Whalleys.

There are certainly some nasty ones out there. And from what i hear, the majority spend as long in the garage as they do on the road? Shame really, as an Evo2 approaching you on the road is a fantastic sight - focused is not the word!

I have an '87 Delta Integrale, Abarth tuned to approx 380bhp. It's a monster. The only reason I bought my P1 is because of the associated reliability problems that Lancias have. I needed something that would get me down the motorway reliably in some comfort without losing the rush of a turbo. It has to be said though (and I'm sure this is going to cause some controversy), on a driving level, the P1 isn't fit to be parked next to it. The Delta was built in the good old days when raw handling was essential, modern stability technology etc simply wasn't available on road cars back then and even on the rally cars (esp given the GpB era) engineering was taken to its limits rather than ECU's. Compared to the Delta, my P1 feels a copy of something it can never really be. I've driven many modern "performance" 4X4 cars, several Imprezas, including Catalunyas, type R RA's, my P1, 22B's, Evo 6's and I'm about to chop the P1 in for an R33 skyline. It's tuned and matches the Deltas awesome power. If I take my P1 out for a drive, I come back and think to myself, "yeah...it's fast" but when I come back after taking the Delta for a blast, I think to myself "Can't wait to get back in it! I was holding on for dear life! Can I give myself an excuse to go out in it again?...." Don't get me wrong, if the P1 was the only performance 4X4 car I had driven, I'd think the same about that, but I've been spoiled by the real thing, its addictive. In 20 years time when the Impreza becomes a classic like the Delta is today, maybe someone my age will drive one then and think "Wow, thats a raw drive compared to my Mitsi Evo 14." I rate them very highly. Theyr'e typical Italian cars, built with the typical Italian mentality. "Does it look good?" "yes" Does it go like all hell's on its drivetrain?" "yes" "Good, coz thats all that matters.". I can't wait to get my hands on a homologation S4.
Oh and one other thing... ever had a smell of the inside of a Delta...exactly the same as a 328 Ferrari, oh and the switchgear on them is the same as an F40's......I mean, they did raid Ferrari's parts bin when they were building them. 'nuff said.

Always been a bit of a Lancia nut since seeing and hearing the works Stratos in the forests. Had two Integrales, a 16V and an Evo 1 which I still have. Also competed on several rallies in an Ex-works Group N Integrale. Been round the 'Ring in a Stratos (replica) running course car on a Rally there last year.

Modern day rally cars could produce around 600 BHP if they were not restricted.
Not strictly true as I understand it...

They are built with the restrictor in mind from the beginning, not a strangled 600bhp monster. If you just take the restrictor off without redesigning the engine it will not instantly double the power output. (Though I'm sure it will go up a bit ).

They are high compression engines (for forced induction) and use big boost in the low to mid rpm range that then trails off to almost nothing at higher rpm.

They make 300bhp but >450lb/ft!!!

Slightly off topic

Seem to remember reading many years back (could have been in Classic and Sportscar) about a fully blown works intergrale being run around one of the F1 circuits by a works driver and his time bieng within the qualifing time for that years GP!

Could be talking B0ll0x mind

DOH! - Just re read Ima's post, thanks for clearing that up and a great story!
