Question

I mean, we all spend heaps of hard-earned changing the exhaust, brakes, suspension and engine, is there a car you can buy where this has all been done already, without compromise?

I guess you'd look bloody silly asking about a Unichip for a McLaren F1, but what about "everyday" cars? Are there any that you rally can't improve on straight out of the box? Caterhams maybe? Evo Sprints? There must be something..

I think whatever you have, even a Mclaren, if you are interested in performance cars, there is always something you can/will want to do to individualise and improve it. Carbon fibre tailored luggage anyone

Any car owned by someone who views it purely as a means of going from A to B and doesn't give a monkeys about motorsport is the only car that won't need mods...

FJ,

Fair call. Is it Mr Litchfield, or just "Ian" to you..??!

Chopper, know what you mean. But aren't there car manufacturers out there who KNOW what we all do, and say sod it, we'll do it properly first time round? I know i would if i built cars...!

Yep Ralliart (now eXtreme Auto's ) have done a few psycho versions of the Evo 6 and 7, massive brakes, zorst etc. Expensive cars though. Caterhams are almost all unique due to being glorified kit cars, so you can spec the 'perfect' car, but you are unlikely to find one secondhand as we all have different needs/wants.
Integra(old) is brill...but in the USA you can get a low pressure turbo bolt on for an extra 50bhp.....LOL
I'd say a Clubsport Porsche 993RS(with roll cage etc) is the perfect 'out of the box' enthusiast car - I think a GT3 clubsport is quite adequate also.

Ferrari Enzo needs a body kit, lol.

Tegs are pretty sorted, engine mods generally rob power, so they are strung out to just about max from the factory, and suspension etc also very good, same with brakes etc,

Exige is another top contender, in 190 form.

No, unfortunately there isnt. I looked into that a while ago.

A few examples:

Porsche GT2: best brakes, light (13xx kg), 462bhp. The problem is that they took out the front transmission to lighten it reducing grip and that Porsches are generally cars that are engineered the wrong way around (engine and transmission in the rear, making the front too light --> UNDERSTEER ) Also, if it makes 462bhp at 0.95 bar, it surely could make 550 like RUF make it do at more boost etc --> insufficient power

McLAren F1: good engineering, RWD. If it were good, why make a sports version of it (McLaren F1 LM)?

Ferraris: too heavy

Some English cars are fast, but they are not really cars (R500 or something) but open 2 seaters without any space.

No metter how you look at it, there ISNT such a car. That's why we're modding ours

My local superchips agent was given a Lambo for a week to chip , the customer wanted more power to go with his full decat. I guess if you are in to performance cars and have spare cash there will always be room for improvement.

Since when is 1300+kg light? Caterhams are light, i.e 400-600kg depending on spec, maybe less for a bike engined one.

My recommendation is Ultima GTR or Can-am. They are fairly light (ie <1000kg). They'll build it with your choice of V8s from about 250-650bhp, mental brakes, handling to eat an average Ferrari etc. Their 600bhp/ton demonstrator did hold a few lap records for road legal tyres etc IIRC.

No matter what car you have, a part of you always wants it faster as you always get used to the performance!

I was at an RMA track day a couple of years ago where there was a guy with a 1000bhp F40, and with a kerb weight of c1000kg, he was pushing c1000bhp/tonne. Awesomely fast (until a 1995 Pacific F1 car got on track ) but he was still talking about what else could be done to both up the power, and make it lighter as it didn't feel fast to him anymore

my mate always tell me

POWER IS NOTHING WITHOUT CONTROL.

but then again, he drives a Holden HSV Type R, and at std, would just kill my scoob.

but modding is a very addictive hobby, i must say.
