Right, Budget of about 6K, seems that I could get hold of some decent N-P plate 200SX's. A few questions:
1. Currently own a ZX volcane (8v) - Don't laugh! - and find the liftoff oversteer fun, but a bit hairy.. Especially in the wet! I'd imagine the 200 would be more of a handful. Any thoughts?
2. Servicing costs. Prohibitive or OK?
3. Reliability? It's a Jap wagon so would imagine it's pretty good.. Comments?
4. Tuning. Haven't ventured here before, but would this motor be a good place to start?
Cheers

Don't know myself but in evo forum two people were pretty embarrassed about huge bills and no end of it. One was a god of oversteer and the other got himself a Westie.

servicing is every 6k or 6 months.
One being an 'A' service which is litle more than an oil change. The it rotates between a 'B' and 'c' service. The 'B' is a bit cheaper than the 'C'. The A costs about £90, B, nearer 200 and C about 250. No cam belt to change though!
Nissan will of course be very expensive for things like brakes. I needed mine changing asked my local dealer who said £160, asked Kwik-Fit who were next door and they said £125, the best bit is the guy phoned up next door to see if they had any in stock!
Overall pretty solid. The ingear acceleration is very good, struggles for grip and so has a relatively slow 0-60. But has lots of torque and pulls nicely in all gears at most speeds. The back end can come out if your making good progress but it's not to extreme and easy to catch.
Good cars IMO.

Slow 0-60? not really 6.5 secs is the norm,
Have a look at www.sxoc.com and go to the forum,
Top motors, I've an S13 200SX (pop up lights model) and a mate has an S14a.
Go for the S14a Touring as they have the most toys and better looking front end.
Relatively simple to get more power, you can do a free boost upgrade and get at least 15hp extra, for not much cash you can get a reliable 250/260bhp.
They can be a handful in the wet though, slow in fast out is the way to do it....lots of lovely power oversteer!

Don't worry about the oversteer, you'll get used to it and it's a lot more predictable than the lift off oversteer of an FWD.
Servicing as above but you can save money by sourcing consumables yourself i.e. Front pads from Capt. Nissan C.£70, Uprated Ferodo jobbies (Front brakes are same as the 300ZX) C.£40.
Reliability, Jap car, nuff said, Just get a decent warranty, if any turbo lump goes wrong it's going to be pricey.
Tuning, loads of toys available, see the sxoc forum.
Get one, they're good.

Bought a 2000 on a V plate with 25,000 on the clock two weeks ago, 9 grand. Had it serviced which was £94. Goes very well, put a Unichip and HKS boost controller on now it goes like stink. More mods to follow. Great car worth every penny.
