Friend of mine has a standard 1.8 Focus and her local Ford dealer is saying that it needs front brake discs (again). The car has done 45k miles and had a new set done at 25k miles.
Anybody else know if this sounds reasonable or not ? She ain't a fast driver and usually ferries the kids around and I am worried that they are taking her for a ride ?

Thanks

Thumbs down

Sounds like a typical Ford dealer trick -- when I had an early Mondeo as company wheels they tried to pull the same with me after about 20K miles. Got my local trusty mechanic to check, and he pronouned them fine.

I would suggest your friend try and get a reliable second opinion.

If the first set went that quick it could be a sticky caliper. She should have it checked, but as said get a second opinion first.

Would expect a disk to last for two sets of pads on a standard Focus during normal driving. Unless they are warped and she gets vibration I suspect a little bit of foul play on Fords part.

Thanks for the swift replies - she is being told a set of discs per set of pads ! I drove the car and braked hard a number of times from slow and high speeds without any problems/noise/vibration at all so was somewhat sceptical.

Take it easy out there ....

One set of discs per set of pads, that has got to be a pi55 take! I can make a set of discs last through 2-3 sets of pads, and I seriously abuse mine!
The idea of the pads is to wear out without wearing the disc, as Ro says this seems to be a common dealer (not just Ford) practice, especially with 'silly little women'.
