Whats the specs of these beasts then? Had a little play with one today (nice to see an owner of a car like that willing to play )

Lasted a few miles - he was quick thats for sure but wasn't *that* much quicker than me than I would have expected - was a bit suprised he didn't blow me away - although much MUCH better brakes than me!!

Good fun nonetheless

Same as the regular Carrera 4, i.e. 315bhp and 3.6 litres.

New model uses the turbo body, some of the turbo styling, plus bigger brakes and wheels, but engine is the same. Very very nice car. Personally I'd say it was the pick of the Porsche range (GT2 excluded ) and it would be very close to the top of my shopping list come the day I win the lottery

interior of 993 is substandard in comparison to 996. People often don't take that into account. Interior wise they are in a different class from one another.

Cammy True - but as a scoob owner interiors don't bother me

The exterior look of the 993 is sooooo sweet, looks much more menacing and purposeful IMHO than the 996 (boxster lookalike )......

I am lucky enough to own a 996 C4S, changed from a TT a few months ago. It is a beautiful car to look at, drive etc, speed wise its bloody fast and the brakes are frightingly good.

The suspension is the same parts as the 911 Turbo with different settings. The brakes are also from the Turbo.

As far as racing Scoobs goes its hard to say, no Scoob has raced me yet. But whatever car you drive there will always be something quicker. 0-60 5.1 0-100 11.4 top speed 174MPH. The handling is stunning in the dry and edgy in the wet.

I have to say that I am well impressed with the friendly nature of this site and that so many scooby owners take part.

Rich,
I've got a standard 2000 C4(Tip). I think once your past about 60-70 its faster than a scoob, the big difference is that there is no Turbo kick in the pants like you get in the scoob (I do miss this)and the power is spread pretty evenly across the whole Rev range so it is very smooth and almost never ending. Handling wise I can't tell apart as I never really tested either my old Sti or my C4 beyond my limit which is significantly lower than the cars limits seem to be. In the dry anyway.

Cheers

Cammy,

I think you are right but there are alot of modified Scoobs about, up the top end I imagine my car will leave a large gap behind it but you never know.

The exhaust note alone is worth owning the car for.

Rich - nice to hear from another Porsche owner

I must say, before the weekend I would have had a different view of porsche drivers but this chap (and another different one same day) is really nice to see - both were very friendly and a nice smile as we went our seperate ways

Second chap (same type of car as earlier) followed me just for a bit of fun and then turned round and went back the way we'd come!! Was on a dual carriageway at a set of lights and he was behind me. Both booted it off the lights, I gained about 2 car lengths to 60, moved out of the way so he could pass but to my suprise he couldn't and we then just sat there at exactly the same gap until we slowed for a roundabout - not that far so we aren't talking silly illegal 3 figure speeds Nice smile at each other as we were alongside at the roundabout and he went back the way we'd just come!! Quality.

Agree though that the porshce definately has the muscle to leave me at more than 3 figure speeds Nice to see the machinery being put to a bit of use by two friendly drivers

BTW my scoob has full decat and TEK2 (not dynod yet) but figs should be somewhere around 270+ bhp and 260+ torque, just for comparison! The Porsche wouldda blown me away if the car was standard!!!!

Cheerio!!

I live in Southend and I have to say there are a lot of idiots driving all sorts of cars. The value of the car has no relevance to how stupid people can be on the road. I have never been in to cruising but what I do like is when someone takes pride in whatever they drive, keeping clean, waxed etc. Always brings a smile to my face.
If i have to park my car for example and space is limited I will look for a car to park near that is taken care of, hoping when they return they will have respect for my property too.

And I will always play if another driver wants to and is not just trying to goad me.

I reckon the most beautiful 911 ever was the end-of-line limited run of 993 carrera S, with turbo haunches and no wing with a split rear radiator grill. That is the car that i lust for now I ve more than got my integrale fetish cured.

Rich,

Was wondering if you could tell what you mean about your C4S being "edgy" in the wet? I'm curious because all the UK rags seem to have claimed the 4S as well as the Turbo almost free of vice even in the wet?
Thanks, JL

I can slide the rear end of the car out on any wet corner if I want to. I am getting used to it but its great fun telling the passengers, get ready for this slide!. I wouldnt expect any car to maintain perfect traction at speed in the wet on a corner, the laws of physics cant be broken.

Rich,

Do you think you might be able to provide us one day with a handling comparison between your 4S and an Impreza?

Thanks, JL

Rich,
Do you not have to switch off the PSM to do that ? I've managed it in the snow but never in the wet.

Hi Guys,

Handling wise I cant compare the C4S with a Scoob as I have never driven a Scoob. All I can say is that it sticks to the road very well. And for swinging the **** out on bends. I dont have to turn the PSM off.

I only have the car until the end of the week as I have found its replace ment today woohoo.

I have also had a play with a Porsche Carrera 4 in my IV Type R and it was certainly quick but was not able to pass me. It would probably go past s Type R at the top end but for accleration the Type R had it. I would expect a 911 Turbo would be a different proposition though and this is the car I hope to own eventually. It would still give you the turbo thrills that I currently get from my Scooby but with Porsche reliabilty and brakes. My fave would be a 993 Turbo 4 or GT2 as I agree with previous comments that these cars looks more purposeful. I think the new 996 has gone to smooth and soft in the looks department and has lost that purposeful hourglass shape of the 993.

I agree with the earlier poster thatn the normal 996 is a bit too skinny. Hence why I like the c4S, it is much more imposing a shape.

I was taught a lesson yesterday by the delaer i visited, he took me out in another car and I was astounded how well the car can handle if driven properly.

Time to book up some driving tuition.

BTW what is a IV type R?
