My mum has a relatively new Ford Ka. It recently failed an MOT due to a brake cylinder problem. She had to argue to get it fixed under the warranty, but shortly after the rear wiper motor failed. The Ford dealer refused to swap it under the warranty, and said it was a "wear and tear" item, due to the nature of it and the fact it was electrics.
Now this sounds like a load of sh1te to me. What do you lot think ??? Would they say the same if the radio broke ??

If it's going through an MOT, it must be a minimum of 3 years old, therefore your Mum is lucky to get anything fixed under warranty.
Having said that I would expect at least 6-8 years out of a wiper motor, it's not used that often. Unless you're in Manchester

Me mum said that she was told that an earth had shorted out and that had caused the motor to fail. They then said that it was general wear and tear and the warranty didnt cover it.
I would go down and argue there buts its in Essex and i live over 100 miles away.

If she bought the car 6 months ago with a 1 year warranty, the motor is covered no argument. According to the Ford Ka manual and Warranty I have in front of me (my wifes), Wear & tear items are:
Brake shoes, pads & discs,
Clutches
Tyres
Bulbs, fuses & relays
Windscreen wipers
I personally would speak to the citizens advice bureau.

I have told me mum to ask the garage to fax her a copy of the job card. If it says what she was told (earth wire in motor shorted out) then to call the warranty company direct and go from there.
Will also get in contact with CAB.
Cheers
