I was considering buying one as a temporary car, but the interior really put me off. Didn't even want to drive it after seeing the inside.

I see what everyone meant when they said the interior was far superior in the Peugeots now

Are you saying the interior is worse than that of an early Scoob? I find that hard to beleive. If it is worse, I need to witness one for myself

I thought it was much worse and I don't think its just because its a smaller car.

It was very basic, very cheap, thin plastic and generally a poor effoct of behalf of Citroen

I was quite disappointed really, because it seemed like a lot of car for the money. But I just couldn't live with that interior. Our VW Lupo is streets ahead in the interior styling stakes, think I'll have to drive that until tht new car arrives

It's nae the best I must admit!

I would however categorically state that if someone offered me a standard scooby with the old interior as a staight swap for the VTS I would not have taken it! I HATE (with a passion) the old style scooby interior (sorry peeps but I'm allowed my opinion). As most of you know I'm now driving around in a W reg polo and experiencing the german quality thing. This may surprise a few but I actually prefer the VTS interior. Sure the handles and glovebox (at least the polo has one!!) are dampened but most of the quality is derived from making the buttons harder to push!!! The indictor actually requires effort to switch on and off and I just with I had my old instrumentation back which seemed to be logically laid out and easy to opperate with a wee flick of your wrist (no pun).

Shame you didn't drive it dunk, I was put off with the interior all those moons ago but forgave it as soon as I drove it. Also, don't forget this car was designed eons ago.

However, wifey has had a Saxo for 3.5 years (compared to my Scoob that I've had for 2.5 years) and nothing has fallen off inside the Saxo. Unlike the Scoob -- sunglasses holder on top of dash fell off after a year, and the other day I pulled up the lid of the little cubby-hole behind the handbrake and the locking mechanism fell apart. And if you look under the steering column you can see all the wires (same in the boot). And what about the dash-mounted cupholder? I daren't put anything in there for fear of breaking it.

Granted it is not the nicest place to be, but after 25 months my Saxo had far fewer rattles than my Impreza did after 6 months, it is all cheap thin plastic, but that is how they keep the weight & price down.

The only thing I couldn't let them off with were the seats, they were absolutely horrid, I'd regularly get out of the car after 100 or so miles and be almost unable to walk.

Saxo interior is not exactly the "best", hence why I went for the 106 GTi instead, which is much nicer inside and better finished off than it's sister car.

Has these lovely leather & alacantara seats too, which *all* Saxo boys want >>>

When I recently sold my '98 S Reg 106 GTi it did not have any annoying rattles/squeeks and nothing had broken/fallen off, not your typical French mota.

Saxo seats are the worst i've ever ever been in! Maybe it was just Robs car but a bed of nails would have been more comfortable!!

I don't find Saxo seats bad at all
After having the Scoob for two weeks I was about ready to sell it because I found the seats incredibly uncomfortable. Then I finally got the seating position right

Depends on the age of the Saxo and what model it was.

The newer seats are not as comfy IMO.

Ones in my sisters Y Reg VTR are a bit cr@p really.

The one I looked at was a 2000/01 model I think. It wasn't so much the seats, although they were pretty un-sporty, more the dashboard The dash in my old 205xs was better Okay, not quite

Yeah, I am not a big fan of the Saxo dash either.

This is a 106 GTi dash...





Not great pics, but you get the idea.


It's laid out better in my opinion, doesn't have that big stupid air vent sat in the middle of it, heater controls are better & illuminte well in dark (unlike Saxo), built out of better plastics too.

Same clocks in both cars though.

I prefer the interior of the Saxo to the GTI myself. The only thing the GTI has is the leather/alcantara stuff but that's nothing a retrim wouldn't cure.

Saxo interior is MUCH nicer than the 106 IMO.
The 106 feels cheaper and has a centre console which is more likely to attack your knees.

Whenever I had a courtesy car 106 I was amazed how much worse it was inside to our Saxo.

Fair point, it's like exterior styling, everyone will have a different opinion. I used to find the VTS a real pain in the *** when you were trying to do anything in the car other than driving, there just isn't the space.

Before you start, I mean eat some food, read some plans - planner - or a paper, etc.

Now you've got me worried, it was an R reg VTR which I bought new, and the seats were exactly the same as those in the VTS I test drove, I'd be interested to know how they could possibly have made them worse.

On more than one occasion I had the Recaro booklet and phone in my hands, but always managed to talk myself out of spending £1500 on a pair of seats.

having owed both a 106 and the saxo.....the saxo is the better of the two IMHO

there is nout wrong with it to be honest. Ya cant really compare it to a CTR or a scooby as they are both in different classes.

1 major point being is the saxo is atleast 4k cheaper than both the other models "ya get what ya pays"

Having a laugh reading about the Saxo flimsy interior.

Obviously no-one has ever owned a 205GTi. A new rattle or chirp every day. It would probably annoy you if you weren't having so much fun driving.

Ex-girlfriend had 2 new VTS's on the trot. Not bad motors actually (albeit no 205), but no good if you have size 6 feet or bigger.

I've had a VTS and a 106GTi....the 106 is alot better screwed together than the VTS (inside and out)....i also prefer the interior and dash of the 106 over the Saxo...but hey each to their own!

id never seen inside one until monday this week and was shocked how crpa they look inside how plastic it looked all round, that netting down my the footwell to store stuff is just a joke.
I never understand that with some cars, have a nice looking outside then look crap on the inside and totally put you off.

That's a point, I forgot there was not even a glovebox on a VTS!

Must have changed since they built wifey's one (old headlights shape). Has a glovebox (although small), and plastic bins in the doors (no netting). Not a VTS though.

The reason the VTS doesn't have a glovebox is cause they put the airbag there.

A place to put a can of coke and some tissues or your face hiting solid plastic at 30mph......you decide
