question on Brakes
#4
most of your braking is done at the front so if he has drums it wont realy matter as long as they work fine.I think what you have to think about is sticking a heavy engine in a light car with that much power is going to be hard to control in the traction/handling department but as far as i know the brakes should stop a train never mind a corsa but if you braked really heavy the back end could squirm and feel unstable due to the lack of weight at the back and all the weight transfering to the front.I could be wrong but hope this helped.

Yes, they would be enough to stop you. The question is, how long would it take? Greenstuff pads for the front? Nah! I personally would use some DS2500s and I reckon that you should put the rear discs from an Astra 16v on the rear. Also, get some decent fluid.

A better bet is the rear hub assemblies from a MkII Golf GTi, these have smaller rotors than the Astra so provide more sensitivity and better balance, it could also be worth fitting a Bias Proportioning Valve (available from any accesory supermarket/motorsport parts supplier). The only downside is that the handbrake is in the caliper so will not lock & turn the car as effectively
BTW the proposed fronts are way bigger than those fitted to factory WRXs & STis which are twice the weight and they stop ok, so you should be able to stand a Corsa on its nose
P.S. Courtenay have been doing this conversion for years on both Corsas and Novas, to great effect, if you sort the suspension.

I had some ordinary EBC pads in my Fiesta and thought they were crap! A mate put some in his XR3I and said the same!
They didn't work well from cold, were noisy and didn't last long.(IMHO) The best pads I've had were orignal Ford, a snip at £8 aswell ( not a lot of use on a corsa though)
On a slightly different note, I'd think hard about the suspension set up. First of all the replacement engine is gonna weigh more, which will upset the weight distribution. Couple that to massive front brakes and you're gonna end up with a seriously light rearend

The green stuffs were absolutely sh1te, but I put red stuffs and EBC grooved discs on my Legacy when it had 2 pots on, and thought they were the mutts nuts. The Legacy is now wearing standard MY01 4-pots, pads & disc and they are an improvement again in pedal feel, response and fade resistance.

I built a turboed Nova about 7 years ago.
Suspension was Koni adjustables - No comparison
Front brakes were Tarox 6 groove from a Cavelier GSI - Non others available at that time, rears were off a Cavalier Sri with the balance thingy (long day) in the handbrake,
Courtney are more than helpful when you phone up for advice anyway.
Cheers

I think the reason most people go for discs on the reaer is because they look a lot better than drums. If he plans to do trackdays then it rear discs might be worth considering as drums can overheat with hard use.

If your puting a 2 ltr 16 v engine in a corsa .. you wont need to convert rear brakes .. but you will need to change the front brakes ... take them off of an astra "f" (vauxhall will know which this is (mark 3) and they should go straight on to the corsa suspension .. other wise your gonna have discs too hot and eating through pads and not stopping cos they over heat ... plus some huge alloys to get mre air to the discs should help!Plus there is a compensater at the back on the offside (near the fuel filter) change this with one from and astra if you find the back isnt braking properly
